After having a Miata with a VSM mount, I went looking for one for my new ( to me) Mini. after seeing how much money they wanted, I got out the Sugru and a Marble and made my own. Pics below, Link to the Instructable as well.

Here's the final Product, both Glove boxes open freely.

 

The magnet doesn't bother the phone at all?

Also: I can't find that kit. What size would you say your magnets are, approx?

 

No issues with the magnet interfering with the phone. The magnet is ~ 1 inch. Here is a link to the Sugru website with the kit
