There is now a competitive place for the JCW. The July Fastrack lists the JCW MINI Cooper S as eligible for Street Touring Ultra (STU). It should be fun to see if someone can make one run with the M3,STI and EVO. We know an S can run with a WRX.

You may have a choice

An MCS with any reduction pulley upgrade that adds boost would have a choice of running in SM (street mod) or STU (is that a new classification essentially for fast stock cars?) Why not have the JCW MCS run in one of the street prepared classes?

No, only the JCW is legal for STU. If you do the pulley mod you go straight to SM. The JCW is also classed in ASP (A Street Prepared) where it is hopelessly outclasses by Corvettes and Porsches.

No, JCW is a Dealer installed option package. Very specific parts installed with a warrantee from MINI. It is essentially a separate model car.

While you can approximately recreate the package, with other parts, it is not legal. The classing decision says "JCW" that is all that is legal in either ASP or STU.

You can't take a WRX and drop in a 2.5 turbo and run it is STU, same with a pulleyed S.

If you want to be able to do that, write a letter to SEB@scca.org

What is UP with THAT. The man Motoring is just trying to be helpful and fully answer your question.

If you want a personal on the phone explanation, calll the SCCA in Topeka (use their 800 number ( www.scca.org ) so it will not be on your nickel) ask for the Solo 2 Technical Department. They are every bit as helpful as Motoring...but on the phone.....don't worry if you're not a member....they don't quiz ya.....

Will the 05's with LSD be legal for STU? The rules state that "No limited slip differentials except factory viscous coupler type units". Does the MINI's LSD fit into that?

That's the STS rule, is it not? Even STX allows aftermarket LSDs. Most of the STU cars have one or more gear-type LSD's from the factory - the STI and '05 EVO have no less than 3 LSD's, none of them viscous.
