Anyone go to Milwaukee Nationals?

I was at Milwaukee Nationals this past weekend, and saw some really fast mini's out there. Just checking to see if anyone was out there. I wanted to stop by and ask some set up questions, but I was attending to another racer . I'm hoping to get my mini out on the course when I can afford to be off on the weekend, and buy her some new shoes.

Well, if anyone was out there, drop me a line, I'd love to pick your brain.

Well, I'm mostly curious about what kind of tires/tire pressure you guys are running...

My guy runs in FS and I'm thinking that the setup of a Mustang greatly differs from what a Mini would be. Generally speaking that is.

I noticed that a lot of the Mini's were running on Hoosiers, which I am kinda partial to the brand as well. I know they feel better than Kumho's or Yokohama's on the Mustang, but I was hoping someone had some input as to which they liked better.

I bought my mini used, and I'm pretty sure it is all stock, at least I hope so, since I'd like to run HS when I can officially bring her out. Was there much tweaking you did to your mini to make it competitive? While still staying within the HS guidelines of course.

Thanks for all the help!

You should have come over and said hello! The HS guys are really a great group.

As far as setup goes I've listed what I've changed below, hope this helps.

- Lightweight wheels (Rota Slipstream) from 18racing.com (best bang for the buck)
- Hoosier A6's 205/45/16 but the Kumho's are quick too, I finished 3rd in Milwaukee and the top two spots were on Kumho's...
- Koni shocks
- Supertrapp muffler (the car was TOOO quiet, had to hear it a little).

My 07 has great stock brakes, the older one's I've heard aren't so good so you might want to change to some Hawk or EBC pads. I haven't made that change... yet...

As far as setup goes. I usually start off with cold pressures of 38F and 55R with my shocks full soft in front and almost full stiff in the rear. I like the car to rotate a little though. If your new and don't want to start off with a "loose" car, start with 38F and 42 or so in the rear.

Hope this helps, If you want to know anything else, just let me know.

I would have loved to come over and said hey, but as it all worked out you guys were racing while FS was getting ready, and then they were racing while you were in impound, so the timing just didn't work out for me to come ogle the minis and chat a bit.

Thanks for all the great info though, that is awesome! It was my first event this past weekend, although I have somewhat followed the sport for a little over a year, and I've totally caught the bug. I had the best time, and all weekend I was thinking about how much I wished I had had my mini there to take out on the course.

Congrats on the great finish this weekend too! I loved watching the mini's attack that course. My guy was in the blue mustang that took FS for the weekend. It was all I could do to not just steal the stang and try and pose as him at the start line.

Anyway, thanks again, and maybe you'll see me out on the course someday.

Which Konis are you using? In my old thread someone said you can use Koni Yellows if you modify them. Is that what you are doing? I'm starting to get tired of waiting for Koni to release something for the r56. I might just give in and modify an existing set. Though I need the details on what exactly is needed.

I bought mine from Craig Wilcox when he sold his Mini. They were on a 08 S, so I'm not sure if anything had to be modified or not, I know I didn't have to do anything to them to fit on this car.

Minis are pretty competitive in completely stock form without any mods. I liked it better that way. All you have to do is drive and not have to worry about setup

I'm running a similar setup to Shawn except I'm on Kumhos. Plus I also have a magnaflow exhaust and hawk hp plus pads.

I have the koni yellows set a full stiff all the way around and run about 42psi in front and 38psi in the rear depending on the temperature.

HS is a pretty good bunch. I know when I first started all the other competitors were more than willing to answer any questions I had. It would be nice to see more Minis at our local events. There are only a handful that regularly come out

Hey, thanks for your input as well! I'm really hoping to get out on the track sometime soon, and as awesome as all the people were in FS, it's good to know the HS guys are just as helpful. My mini has me racing down the highway all the time so I'm sure she is dying to get out there as well.

Thanks again, and hopefully you'll see me out there at some point.
