I just introduced myself over here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...wisconsin.html and have a question already. I just noticed some rust developing today on the hatch rubber stops. Here are a couple of pictures:

I did some searching here, and didn't see other posts specifically about rust in this location. I'd like to address this right away, but was curious if someone else has fixed this themselves, or if you know if the warranty covers it. Was quite bummed to see it considering I bought the car less than a week ago.
This guys circumstance may be worse than yours (and a different area on the rear hatch), but he posted how he beat the rust in this NAM thread here. This thread on NAM here also has some good info about rust/warranties. Hope these help. Good luck!
Lol...not sure I would call that much rust...especially on a 10 year old car...
Personally, I think you are fine...a 10 year old car should have some rust...its a fact of life....
You could unscrew the bumpers...sand off the rust, prime it up...paint it..screw in the bumpers, and readjust them...
Any raw metal will rust...bet the bumpers rubed the paint off...
Catching it now might be a good idea...but it appears to be pretty minor..
I'd pull the rubber stops and clean it up and slap some paint back on it. We've been seeing more with bigger issues around the tail lights so that is small.
Awesome to hear, thanks! I'll rip off the stops, clean off the rust, throw some primer and paint on it and call it a day.

I'd take it to mini while there is a rust warranty, see what they can do BEFORE cleaning it up yourself. Surface rust under the door seal trims was covered under warranty for me and they replaced the entire hatch. I told mini, that, this rust in a year will be through the metal. Repaired!!

That is awesome to hear. I'll be taking it to our local MINI dealership first to see what they have to see. Either way I'll report back.

So you were absolutely right! I took it to my local MINI dealership, and long story short they're going to be fixing it for me. They also noticed corrosion by the door sill which they'll be fixing as well. Can't complain for a 9 year old car! Thanks a lot for the suggestion; it never even crossed my mind that it would still be covered. I owe you!

There is a rust warranty longer for the 7/2004+ cars as it was extended form the pre 7/2004, get those other area checked out also which are listed below.

Thanks! I didn't know about the gas cap area, but will definitely mention it when I take it in. That post you mentioned is really funny because a lot of the guys there are in the Milwaukee area like me and took it to the same dealership. I swear the pour acid on the roads here. Hoping to garage the MINI for the winter Going to have to hit you up for a brake upgrade too!

You are welcome, yea , it seems like there is a line below Ohio and PA upward and MINIs in that area show the rust if they have been driven in the winter as a daily driver and have higher mileage. Had mine done for the tailgate and below the taillights, all better now.
