dist 33 ( sfo ) is really confused about minis and, like all are VERY insistant that "official works" and owner modified is different

I am VERY heavily modded and run SM

My son less moddes and runs stx

dont forget that novice and "tire classes" are a good option.

The next event is at McAfee and is a slush run.. they will not care where you run

Look for my son and I ...

Happy to see a fellow MINI and will help in any way

You belong in Street Modified (SM) due to the 15% pulley. No question.

I'm not sure what the JDM Under and Mid Strut Bar is, but the SM, STS, STX, STU, and SP rules only allow braces that go laterally straight across the car from suspension mounting point to suspension mounting point. Pretty much all of the commonly available strut tower braces for the MINI are legal as they go straight across the engine bay. If one of them also tied into the firewall, it would not be legal. Due to the same rules, the new TSW lower brace is not legal for the above classes.

You'll have to either use that description to determine if your brace is legal, or post a picture and I'll be able to help more.

Before some smartallec posts, I know what JDM stands for.

Hope that helps.

Yep the 15% is an instant SM class push..

Like I said earlier you can run T2-SM and have a PAX index time

Just go ... have fun.

i figured that, so even if i remove the under strut bars the pulley will keep me in sm eh? just to make sure, pretty much any rim and tire setup works in sm right? i'm trying to find a good rim and tire setup before the monster park event... i'll be in the novice class for sure, but i want to have fun and be competitive at the same time though. i'll see you there too cor blmy

I see that you have stock brakes ... so if you are going to do auto X there are many advantages wit a 15" rim.

If you run a "Tire class" (T2 SM) you need DOT tires above 140 rated
If full on SM ... go for some auto x tires.

The next event is the last of the seasion (in Oakland) and not even part of the series ...
Time will hurt some big buck tires that you may use once then store till next year ...

If I can make a sugestion ... go and run SM or T2 SM on the rims and rubber you have now ... Then you will have all winter to research the set up you want

whats the difference between "T2 SM" and normal SM? i found a set of light rims for a good price so i just need to find tires. all i have to is get camber plates to get more negative camber up front and mess with the rear bar. with all that prepared, i can focus on driving improvements. but just to make sure- no r-comounds in sm right?

T2 SM is a local class, so I'll let someone from that region cover their rules.

SM, nationally, allows any DOT legal tire but not real racing slicks. Tires like the Hoosier A6 and Khumo V710 are SM legal.

Go have fun with whatever tires and wheels you have on the car. There's no point in waiting to get started until you have all the parts and tires you want. Autocross is probably at least 80% driver, so start getting some experience and having fun.
