Let's sponsor Onasled!

Most of my ideas come to me in the shower before 6am, after about 10 my brain pretty much turns to oatmeal. Anyway, as I stood there with the water splashing off my noggin, it came to me. Let's help him out.

Onasled seems like a good guy, though I've never met him. He's taking a shot at something I always wanted to do, but probably never will, and I've always enjoyed his videos. Suppose a thousand of us NAMer's stuck a twenty in an envelope and mailed it to him. Or even 100 of us. You do the math. The power of the Internet! Wouldn't that help him out?

All Onasled has to do is:

- put a little sticker on his MINI that says "The people of NAM", or "MINI friends of Onasled".

- keep us posted with regular updates and videos

Whaddya think? Our very own race team! Of course, there may be some Federal regulation, or some site guideline that prohibits this, but it's worth a shot, right?

I think this is a Great Idea. I have never met the man myself, although I hope I get the pleasure some day. But I have always enjoyed not only his video's but his posts also. Much of the information has been helpful. I'm in, let me know where to send it.

I am in. Greg is a great competitor and provides video to prove it, and entertain our MINI "Walter Mitti" dreams.
Details please.
Al on Cape Cod.

I agree that this is a great idea if Onasled agrees that it is as well. I'd love to contribute and to go see him race.

Any schedule of events yet?

Wow.... you guys have made my day...
I saw this post early this AM and spent 'my' shower time thinking about it. Figured I wait and see if it went to the crickets before I jumped in...

I had thought about something like this quite a while back, but figured it might not go over so big.
Back in 1975 I was fortunate enough to spend two weeks working on the Grant King team out in Indiana crewing for his two car Indy 500 campaign. One of those cars was known as "The Spirit of Indiana" and was almost completely sponsored by individuals, mostly local citizens. That idea has always stuck with me, so this post was a delight to see being it brought back those memories.

Anyway, if there truly is support from the members here on NAM, I would first approach the owner of this forum to see how he felt about that. This would most certainly change the team name to Team NAM rather then Team Onasled.. Not to run away with this idea, as I think it still belongs to Bullfrog, but maybe we could have high quality stickers made with a spot that the individual sponsor could sign or print their name. With a team donation you would be sent the sticker to sign, and then send it to me to place on the car, As I remember it, this is how the Grant King did it and that car was LOADED with stickers ... I remember someone taping a half of a $100 bill to the car and said that they would get the other half if they finished the race... They did.

Anyway, this is something we would have to look into and also I believe get the blessing of the owner(s) of the NAM forum.

Fun to think about. Even if the idea dies here, you all have made my day...
Thanks
Greg

I had the pleasure of speaking with Greg with regard to my current Mod path. I can tell you that Greg was a huge help to me. I would have to say that his time on the phone with me was worth me kicking in to sponsor his efforts! I am in.

Heck, I'm about to put an old satelitte set-top converter on ebay that will probably net me 20 or so bucks. I would gladly PayPal that over to Onasled!

Someone get Mark over here so we can get his input, and hear any concerns that he might have...

I'm in for a 20. I'll hopefully be seeing Greg this summer at the local tracks since we are both up here in the cold NW.

Love the "sign the sticker" idea, let's make that happen. It's one thing to be a proud owner and supporter, and it's another to be represented ON the car. I would just love to help out and see all of the stickers on the car.

Awwwhhhh, .... you guys are fantastic!
Keep those feelings of wanting to support the team.!

If this does in fact happen, I need to work on just what it will involve. I certainly want to offer up as much info about my intensions for this and the following seasons so you do understand exactly what you are interested in supporting.
I still must contact the NAM administration to see if this is even anything they want to see going on here on the forum. I imagine that when we are talking about exchanging money, that there is some protocol that must be followed. In other words, if we do this, lets do it right.

If it interest you then by all means keep me posted by PMing me, or post here.

Thanks all!

It's not my idea, really, it just happened to pick me to express it. I don't have any restrictions whatsoever. Public domain. Try to work something out with Mark, and if it's cool with him, go for it.

Paypal's a good idea. I would put a little sticker on my MINI that said 'Team Onasled', if I had one. I'd just like to see you find some success, and instead of just saying 'good luck', I'm willing to help out a little. We all learn from your efforts.

I realize we're taking advantage of the facilities of NAM here, but I would think it would be to his advantage to have www.northamericanmotoring.com splashed somewhere on the car.

As someone who got to opportunity to meat Onasled at the WMC Skills driving school I'd be happy to be a part of this... ok, it was a brief meet b/c we were driving in seperate groups, but he seems liks a cool guy and a nice ride worth the donation, IMHO. Plus I gotta support the "local" guys!
(when New England is smaller than most states, we're all local)

The stickers sound like a great idea. One more suggestion in addition to the stickers. How about a group buy kind of sticker deal. For 5 donations or $100, instead of sending a sticker to the people of the group buy. Their club sticker would be sent to you.

Count me in for $20 or if the latter becomes a good idea, we'll get you a sticker.
