What changes to my car for the road track?
What changes to my car for the road track?
I have a 2005 MCS with JCW engine, brake and suspension mods dealer installed. I want to compete in Time Attack and local Porcshe and some SCCA events if possible. Besides getting some wheels and tires (presently loooking at Team Dynamics Pro Race 1s and Toyo Proxies RA1s) what else should I do? Looking for advice in order of best performance/price. I would still like to stay in either stock or prepared classes since the car is still driven on the street.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Before you do ANYTHING, you need to read the class rules from whatever class(s) you want to 'compete' in. It's not fun finding out that the $700 you have spent in rubber is not allowed.
On another note, if you are looking at 17" wheels, then the combination you have listed is not a good one. As I remember, those wheels only come 7" wide in a 17. The Toyo 205s want a 7.5 to get the best from them.

yes I was looking at 17" rims. How about Kosei K1s they come in 17x7.5. What other rims have the look of the Pro Race 1s that come in 7.5 width?
Yeah I read your other post and downloaded the BMW rules. I know I need to really understand the class rules before I make any changes but I'm looking for input from knowledgeable sources so if I choose to make some based on class allowances, I'll know what options I have.
Thanks for all your input.

Good advice on reading the rule book as some series spec the max wheel size. MINI Challenge 17x7, USTCC 17x8.
Hounddog, You might also look at NASA Time Trial, SCCA Time Attack was patterned after it. Your MINI would be classed based on mods and you compete with others in the same class. The Rock Mountain region has a Time Trial March 11/12 at Pueblo Motorsports Park, Pueblo, CO. I think your in New Mexico. Contact Dave Balingit with NASA Rockey Mountain dave@nasarockymountain.com.

Thanks for the advice, glad to hear that PR1s come in 7.5 cause I really like the way the black ones would look on my car as well. I'll check out those links. I couldn't make the TT in March due to other commitments but will check the link for future ones. That sounds like just the ticket.
Rich,
Thanks for the correction on the wheels. I have found that this company is impossible to contact, but now we have YOU ....
Would very much like to hear more specs on these wheels. Is 8" the widest in a 4x100 40 offset? If they had 8.5 or 9, that would be very cool.
What kind of weights are we looking at here? How about availability and price? I might be interested in the 8" if that's as wide as they come.

I apparently missed this one
My garden variety PR1s just arrived. What's a mother to do?
...actually, I thought the 1.2 was specifically for Corvettes and Vipers???

my 17x7 weigh 7.3kg or 16.09 lbs 45mm offet $162.00 each flat black
The 17x7.5 weigh in at 8.3kg or 18.29lbs...and cost a little more.
The fellow who supplied me is from the Chicago area. They have Pro Race 1.2 in 17x7" for the "cooper only." Very puzzling. He hasn't responded to my "why".
One point to be made here about tire width, don't forget about aero forces acting on a super wide tire. This can be significant. If the tracks has lots of very high speed straights this will no doubt be a factor. There's always a compromise between all out cornering power and straight line speed.

Now your talking wide. I'll try and stop by TD on Friday and ask. If you can wait, they will machine the blanks, that's no offset and no concentric hub to your spec's. I believe I was told that all blanks have a 25 offset then they'll mill to the offset you want.

I could always use the 38mm BBS wheels for DE events...
