Octane MINI-icar (Mirabel report)- The unfair advantage
MINI Cooper: The unfair advantage in Mirabel
The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship made it first-ever visit to the province of Québec on July 11-12-13 for the Grand-Prix of Mirabel. The newly constructed icar circuit was hosting the event on the grounds of the Mirabel airport.
While typical airport racetracks normally have really long straights and fast- corners, the icar layout is actually very technical with very tight corners. To sum it-up: a MINI Cooper track!
While carrying an additional 30 lbs of lead to “reward” the #47 MINI for a second position finish during the last event on June 1st at Shannonville, the Octane Motorsport MINI managed to come-back home with a few extra bruises but was rewarded with the pole position, and a victory on both the Saturday dry race and the Sunday wet race.
The icar track proved a challenge to master for the Honda, Acura, Mazda, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz competitors with its tricky concrete surface and expansion joints making braking difficult in the dry and tricky at-best in the wet. Message to our competitors: keep complaining to the officials that the MINI is too fast. Or you can get your very own MINI and experience the unfair advantage of a great factory ABS system and the legendary go-kart handling of the MINI Cooper.

It's a BMW-white. It's a new shade. They call it spin. It magically adheres to your car while the donor car performs a loop. Tres chic. And it's 3D.
I have to protect the new shade. We will meticulously hide it from theft by fooling everybody and covering it to match the rest of the car. The car should be at the body shop getting cleaned-up for Trois-Rivieres where all you East-Coast racers, fans or whatever you are, should take the opportunity to enjoy, not one, not two, not three but four MINI racing together during the same week-end. And that's without mentioning that T-R is a great party town with a lot of pleasing to the eyes sights.

Your car is not legal in any class at T-R. I was thinking come to watch (and drink, of course...)
If anybody wonders why the car got louder and louder as the race progressed, here's the answer....
Considering it was only the second race we ran with it, we are not very impressed.
Name of the exhaust manufacturer witheld until I find out what they'll do about it.

Congrats!
Good job Alain!
Car looks great, mine is in the shop for the Summer to fix a few things since Barber.
Wish you could race down here in a Nasa or BMW race with us.
Good luck

Thanks for the kind words Paulo. Yes They are 949 racing. Bought them last year but never used them before. With the new R888 being wider, we figured now would be a good time to switch. The car is all fixed now. It's all only cosmetic. Some day I'll cross the border and try a few U.S. tracks. There's a 3 hours race at Mosport in September, may be you should come and visit.
sdmidget: See you there in a couple of weeks!
