Onasled/M7 race car stuff...NEW
Chris,
Thanks, ... the body is like this. The bumper cover and side skirts started out as aftermarket parts, .. forget who makes them, but they are well known I guess. The hood started out as a VIS CF/Fiberglass S hood along with the rear hatch. I then modified these parts, some quite extensively. The flairs are also my own as are the doors (CF/ Kevlar). I might have molds made of all this stuff, as it would be quite beneficial when I bend the car, as I am sure I will eventually. If there is interest, I might offer the parts for sale for anyone wanting to build a Mini Race car.
Suspension is all pretty much aftermarket. No rubber left at all. Shocks are JRZ two ways. Springs are Hypercoils. All bushings are solid.
Have no idea of the weight yet as the car is not complete.

sound slike an impresive setup. is it going to be for endurance, sprint, autoX???
thanks CHris
yes, because lap times on the first mechanical shakedown are important
...knowing full well that someone will try to compare the first few laps of a new car's shakedown to cars running a full season of racing.
I am a big fan of data, but I would say give 3 events to get some bugs worked out and at least start doing some setup. Its not like their is a very similar car out there to get a close baseline for initial testing.

Agreed . When you have a car that is new from the ground up, just getting it to run a clean lap is a worthy goal. Lap times on the first day are last on the list of importance. Once its closer to being dialed in and you feel like you are actually making the car work then it is time to start keeping those type of records.
I thought that was that vid in the church parking lot? surely, he could have had the pastor run a stopwatch
well, my thinking was that posting the times from the first laps run on a car would serve as a baseline. just to give us all a feeling for what the car can do 'fresh outta the box'.
is that such a bad idea?

What possible info. could that produce? That it actually runs?
yeah, but we already know roughly what our baseline hp is, and we know it runs. The times produced on the first day will be so out of wack, i could bike around and beat it. I would recomened he leave the watch at home the first day. I have built a car from the ground up, and know what its like the first time. I didnt even get the car out of the garage the first time before the clutch linkage broke, then i "fixed" it, got the car to the end of the block and it broke again. A shake down run is just that, make sure the car runs, get bugs worked out. attempting to do any baseline anything would be financial and possibly literal suicide. Im affraid it just cant be done. Minutes will be shaved off lap times the first day, even after alot of work and time has been invested, seconds will drop by the dozen off of lap times. I would say after about a dozen run days or so, and the car feels good, then he can do a baselinish kind of thing. But on a one off car, what would the baseline be, as everything has changed. A baseline can really only be done when somethings being changed, and very hard to do when somethings being built. You can hardly call that a mini anymore, sure, its in mini cloths, and it has the same basic motor, butnothing else is the same. Did they use a 1959 cooper to set a baseline when they designed our car? i dont think so (and hope not!). Sorry to disapoint, but no good would eveercome of Meb posting any times on the cars first run.

.
Then, you put it on the dyno and begin tuning. The power made on that first run is maybe half the power of the end result and no one cares what that hp number was because its irrelevent, only the parameters of the motor that need to be worked on. (onasled's first time driven in anger at whatever future event) You make calculations and simluations when designing a motor, and until the motor is tuned, you can't comapre real world results to any sort of expectation.

You caught me....I'm definitely KellyGirl's biggest fan.
I'm just so excited to hear the critique that she is withholding...she has great insight and knowledge in the motorsport world.
My guess is that you misread who i was referring to in my original post and actually took it as serious praise....
