Onasled/M7 race car stuff...NEW
Good call on the paint scheme Onasled. Congrats on making so much progress
I've been wondering though. What are your plans for the sidemarker area? It seems like you shaved a lot of the street-car aspects (headlights, cowl vents)....but i noticed you didn't fill in the sidemarker. Just curious to what it will be used for

Hey Greg
I just about gave you up for dead. Nice to see your dream almost done. If you still have my number give me a call. Joe still wants to know about your tires. He call a couple of times- no reply. Car looks great. Hope the motor makes big power after you work the car out. When will it see the track.
Give me a buzz.
Larry
Hopefully this thread won't turn into a NAM pissing match.

Looks Sweet!
Couple of questions, if you don't mind.
How do you run it without a B.O.V.?
Where did you move the T.M.A.P. ? I see you covered/blocked off the stock location.
Are you running the factory E.C.U., or aftermarket?
Thanks, Bob

It was a toss up on whether to leave those of just fill it in. Would certainly been easier to fill rather then to 'french' them. But, being so much of the typical mini ID stuff is now gone I thought I'd at least leave these S vents. It actually is an area that the air flow is locked, so the vents will in fact help relieve some pressure if any occurs. The lights will in fact work and am thinking about having them on at all times. We'll see.
Thanks for the poss feedback.

haha, yeah, the splitter is big to, but i was reffering to what ever is in the background in that first pick that looks like a huge curved spoiler comming off the roof, and the pipe standing up in the corner of the shop that looks like its part of the roll cage supporting the spoiler, and it looks like the 2x4 is holding it up as well. Just busting your chops a bit...........I seem to recall the oil cooler being mounted behind the seats, so i assume those (what i assume are) outlets must be for something else, but what????
thanks
Beecher

Yea, that 2x4 is holding up the wing so I can get things aligned for now. Look forward to getting it off the car today.
i found my pic of the oil cooler actually, i was sure i had it saved somewhere. That was just awsome shot of the car (looks like a cutaway of the back). That is the spoiler back there? Just how big is it? I was just kidding around, i thought i was something in the back ground that happened to look like a spoiler. I just went back and looked at the pic closely (cause it looks like the spoiler is 2 feet wider than the car...) is it really? or was it just off center or something. I thought maybe it was a combo or the boot open and something else or something. Would love to see a shot of the spoiler. Maybe late on in the spring i will have to roadtrip down to see this bad boy, it just looks so incredible.
The wing is quite wide, but no wider then the car minus the flairs. Rules state that rear wing can be no wider then the car not including mirrors.
Another bunch of snow last night and today so work on the car is slow. Still hope to have wing on by tonight.

You're just trying to keep the boot clean, aren't you?
If it works, you can sell 'em for the street.
Good to see you back - helluva project!

Thanks, ... the body is like this. The bumper cover and side skirts started out as aftermarket parts, .. forget who makes them, but they are well known I guess. The hood started out as a VIS CF/Fiberglass S hood along with the rear hatch. I then modified these parts, some quite extensively. The flairs are also my own as are the doors (CF/ Kevlar). I might have molds made of all this stuff, as it would be quite beneficial when I bend the car, as I am sure I will eventually. If there is interest, I might offer the parts for sale for anyone wanting to build a Mini Race car.
Suspension is all pretty much aftermarket. No rubber left at all. Shocks are JRZ two ways. Springs are Hypercoils. All bushings are solid.
Have no idea of the weight yet as the car is not complete.

Happy Holidays!
ote=onasled;1924805]Thanks Beecher.
The "Theory" is to evacuate all the air I can from the under the hood and to keep it out from under the car with the exception of the needed amount to enhance the rear diffuser. Inner wells are re-shaped to help this process and the fenders are open at the back to let the air flow out, actually 'pull' the air out from the front of the car
I'll take some more close us of this area and post'm.[/quote]
Hello Greg,
Congratulations on a superb project!
Sorry to hear that you are snowed-in, it's mild and sunny hear in Baton Rouge.
Car looks great, the forced-air scoop to the IC and exiting on hood should really move some air through it.
Your yaching experience comes in handy on cleaning the airflow on the roof. Just like extending the transomes aft of the measured WL on sailboats...
Can't wait to see in person.
Come down to Louisiana if yo want to do some track testing this winter. I can send you the 2008 schedule for lapping days and DEs at NPR.
Best regards,
Steve

STEVE! SO sorry that I never returned your calls. I'm intensely bad at picking up the phone, and I'm worse then ever about it right now.
Your car looks really good also. Great to see that you got so much done on it in '07.
We'll hook up, I promise!
By the way, I saw your pic in the latest BMWCCA mag!
, where were you going there??

Well, about a foot of snow here today and I'm a bit board, so I thought I'd try and start a new thread on the race car. Figured I'd start by posting a 'few' pics of how it sat a couple of weeks ago. I'll try and keep up with good photos, but the car will be professionally shot (photo) soon, so I should have some great pics then.
Finally the two year build is coming to an end.

I think you have done an amazing job
).I'm a power junkie so I'm not sure that I agree with your statement about power. Especially after looking at the size of those front tires. Our cars a weak at best. Even at over 250WHP the car is very easy to handle and the extra power is great to have.
But thats fine. It's yours and it's your choice to make it how "you" want.

. I agree with others that it some how looks like an original Mini. Sorry if I'm late to the party here but did you do all this work in your garage? I can see the lawn mower (don't need one like that in SoCal
).

As far as the power goes, I'm just not there yet, as far as planning. It has just been the goal so far to build the best foundation that I could, then the power thing would come next.
Yea, in reality I'm not going to run stock, and I'm far from that now. I just don't want to really do anything until "I" understand it all. At this point I think I've built one of the finest race Mini Coopers in the country, as far as the chassis and suspension go without just going to a tube frame chassis all around. I'll most likely need a good part of next season to just tune the chassis and to learn to drive the thing. Then I can really think about some strong power, if that's the way I want to go.
I agree with you as far as power, but I have also seen WAY too many Minis not finish races due to over modifying the motor. So, steps at a time with this motor.
Lets face it, the Mini was not the best choice of cars to do what I have done.
I will be racing some VERY powerful and fast BMWs!

Finally got to see the pic in Roundel tonight, looks good in opposite lock.

Hey looking good! Speaking from expirence....make molds of those things ASAP.....or at least before you put it on the track....you won't have 2 years to rebuild it during the season....I've been burned in the past on the very 1st race of the season weighing the odds of not wadding it up....lost that bet. better yet....always have a "B" car...
Thanks,
