OBDII report no faults, despite Engine Malfunction message

I have an “Engine Malfunction! Reduced power” message that happened rather rarely and would reset after the car was power cycled. Now it is constant.
My generic OBDII reader shows no faults reporting. (Same OBDII that found the HP fuel pump bad) So Im wondering if a BMW/MINI specific reader could maybe see something this generic reader can’t?

I feel a difference in idle, as it is mildly rough, and I can sometimes smell a rich fuel mixture; but I feel like there is no actual reduction in power.

any ideas?

thanks!

You need a reader that will interpret BMW/MINI DTCs. For example, I use Carista with my phone. It's a Bluetooth dongle that connects to the OBD2 port and has software for both iOS and Android devices.
