Weird engine malfunction message

Hey everybody. So I’m aware that there are many posts regarding the engine malfunction message and I did run a search before I posted but I’m experiencing something I did not find while perusing through all the posts. So I have a 2012 countryman S 6 speed. I recently replaced the high pressure fuel pump but this has been happening since before I replaced that. The issue I get is every time I am in 3rd gear and don’t shift into 4th gear before I hit 3500 rpms I get the engine malfunction reduce power message on my screen. No CEL light ever comes on and there are never any codes to read. The light will stay on until I turn that car back on and rev the car past 3000 rpms on either 1st or 2nd gear. But if I go past that in 3rd it comes back on. Help me figure this out! Please...

You probably do have codes, what are you checking them with?
This sounds very familiar. Does it go into limp mode when you are trying to accelerate a bit at speed, like going up an incline? It’s probably a boost pressure error code. But you need them read. AutoZone and most general scan tools will not read the proprietary BMW codes, you need specific software for it. Try having them read at a shop that repairs a lot of BMW/MINI vehicles. A lot of them will do it for no charge. Then post them here and we can be more help for you
