Hello, long time lurkers, first time poster...

I have a 2013 Countryman S, I absolutely love this car, really fun to drive. A couple of days ago, I threw a belt, and it wrapped around the main pulley. In doing so, it looked as if it had damaged the main seal due to all of the oil around the engine compartment, and undercarriage. So, I got a new belt, a new seal, pulled the tire... you get it. got it all buttoned up, refilled the oil, and let her idle for a bit to check everything. all good. I didn't even make three blocks and it started smoking due to the oil being thrown out again. Took everything apart, inspected, idled it with the tire off to look for leaks... nothing. Long story short, I took the main pulley off, and drove around the block like that, and when I got back, there was a bunch of oil coming out, and it was coming out of the hole in the block just above the crankshaft seal. It looks like a freeze plug the plug, but I can't find it anywhere for purchase...

Anyone know what this is? The first pic you see the crank and front main seal, with the hole above. the timing chain is visible through the hole. The second pic is a bit closer look at the hole. Any help is appreciated, as I don't know what to even call this, much less find a part to correspond to it. Headed to the dealership in the morning in hopes they can get me the part, but if I can avoid a trip there, it won't hurt my feelings. Thanks in advance1

#18 and #19 I believe are the block seals. 19 is that one and its needs set in with locktite

thanks MinibotAll4 and ECS Tuning. I may have to go ahead and order another piece from the BMW dealer. The Mini tech I talked to yesterday didn't mention anything about bonding or locktite... just to get it in all the way, and drive it in level...

So, it is in, and holding, for now. I am going to order another piece, and get it put on with lock-tite this weekend, if it holds till then.

I have an R56 Cooper S and purchased that plug. The photos with the plug removed were very helpful, as they were the only ones i found on the internet. The only youtube video i found didn't show how it was removed or replaced.

My questions, since the link someone provided to the repair instructions no longer works, are 1. Do you use Loctite or Permatex? and 2. What sort of tool or tools do you use to install the new plug?

I found a sock the perfect size, but it won't fit between the engine and the frame rail, and with an extension in it, i can't hit the plug squarely anyways.

I see three sealants on that page. Would i be correct in assuming that it is the 5970 that you previously mentioned?

 

Yep, and we have options if you don't want the Genuine BMW stuff. We cross ref OEM part number.
