Missing a plug ? Connector

Hi there, today when I look inside the engine bay to check if any coolant or oil leak, I found this little plug. Is it supposed to connect to somewhere ? Does anyone know where this thing goes ?

I thought the same thing, but on the N18 motors it's supposed to look like that. You are fine.

Thanks. I feel much better now. BTW my car recently throw me a check engine light. Sometimes it will turn off itself. But it comes back on. The code saids P0597 $07E8 Generic - Thermostat Heater Control Circuit/Open.

I wonder if that will cause damage to the car if I don't fix it ? I tested the heat and it is running fine.

Did you get your thermostat replace? That 'little plug' is the coolant temp sensor that is now relocated to the new tstat design. That error code is a symptom of tstat going bad and will need to be replaced. If you're under warranty, get it fix asap. If you're out of warranty, in CA, the tstat is covered under emission warranty for 7yrs/70k miles.

I doubt it though. My car has no more warranty. Is a 2012 model but it has 82,000 miles on it. You think I can still bring it in and see if they will grand me this one.
