Thanks for the heads up on the CA issues since I was getting ready to order and I live there. Guess I'll order it and have it sent to relatives out of state who can forward it on to me.

I turned mine down a notch because I could only get 91 in New Mexico. Just moved to Florida where they have 93 so I was planning on turning it back to the default position.

If you really wanted your engine to last as long as possible you'd take it off completely :-P

I just installed mine 2 days ago and I am definitely impressed. I have not driven that much in the past 2 days but I think there is a noticeable difference in acceleration. The difference was very noticeable after I broke it in with about 50 miles of driving.

I installed JB+ two weeks ago and I am really happy with the power increase.
The CM is really fun to drive now. I left the setting to 6 O'Clock and I am running 94 octane.

I am a little concerned about black soot that I have on my trunk since I have installed the JB+.

Is this normal??

(Other than the JB+ my car is stock)

Chiming in here under the "I love my JB+" tent:

Just put it in this last weekend and after about 50 miles, I can definitely tell a difference, especially in the mid range. It's not a gigantic leap in power, but it's enough that it makes me want to go for drives all the time and the smile I usually have when driving gets a little bigger

FWIW, my set up is: ALL4, VIP intake, JCW exhaust running 92-93 octane fuel. JB+ was set on default and I'll probably keep it there.

Contemplating either the sprint booster or the D1 spec throttle controller to give me access to that speed a leeeeeetle sooner...

I hand a sprint booster and it was cool for about 30 mins. It made the car to jumpy. I removed it quickly

Do you still have the SB? I am looking to pick one up at a slight discount.

Installed mine last night. Have about 25 miles on it. I cannot really tell to be honest. I think it feels a little quicker?

Installed mine today and drove around 30 miles. So far, it feels that mid range power/ response improved. Haven't had a chance yet, to take Lola for a spin in the mountain roads around my house but the weekend is not far...

What would be the best way to break in the JB: freeway, town or a combo driving?

Does colder spark plugs would make more difference than stock, since in getting closer to 15,000?

Long 3rd gear and fourth gear pulls. I changed to colder plugs at 7k and my GP ran smoother.

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my 2014 all4, does this leave any kind of stamp on my ecu? Incase something does go wrong is there anyway mini can prove I was using it as long as I remove it before brining it in?

I saw some posts saying that it will take some life away from the engine. How serious is the strain this puts on the engine?

And one last question, will a CAI help reduce the strain on the engine from the JB? or are most CAIs really just for a change in sound?

Thanks for your help!
James

Nope, it doesn't leave a trace. I got a CEL a few months back, and before taking it in to be checked I removed the JB+. After plugging it in, service had no answers as to why it threw a CEL and asked if I had ever had a tune on it. Of course I lied through my teeth and said no. It wouldn't have mattered either way, because they didn't know what caused it other than it was a fast idle warning; they just reset it and it hasn't happened again.

I think as long as you leave it set to what's recommended for your car, you're not going to take any measurable life out of the engine. No more than any other non-track street type tune or performance mod, anyway. I had a RMW tune on my '10 Cooper S, which got a noticeably bigger power increase than the JB+, and I never had any issues with it while I owned it.

Well, first off, the intent of a CAI is to increase power, which will never reduce strain on an engine. However, in my own experience and in the feedback I've seen on all the different brands and designs, none of them really make any significant difference other than maybe allowing the turbo to spool up faster and making some cool noises. I recently installed a VIP CAI on my black Paceman All4, and I'm about to officially name it 'Darth Cooper', because depending on what I'm doing with the throttle, it sounds like Darth Vader breathing. But I digest ...

I do recommend the JB+. Dollar for dollar, it's probably the best performance mod you can put on these cars.

So what does BMS claim the HP/TQ gains are on the Default setting?

Planning to get one!! Question about the claim of hp & Tq, it is base on stock or it is base on some mod? In the future of the mod. support will those change the performance of the run?

Their claims are based on a stock S.

I would think so.

An intake won't really add anything, that's already been proven. A downpipe and full exhaust would definitely help, but you will need to deal with the CEL that a downpipe will cause. To get rid of it you could try the Akrapovic Delete-R which supposedly resets the light for you so it no longer comes on but I've read hit/miss reports on it working. The only other way to get rid of the CEL would be to get a real tune from places like Manic or PAW.

FWIW, I ran the JB+ for just under a year. I will tell you that it is a blast. Wakes up our MINI and really adds to the drivering experience. Originally this was offered with the BMS CAN Tool, which would Highjack your gauges to show Timing/Boost/AFR and even add in some flasher's for a shift light. The benefit of this besides the gauges is that it would show improvements of boost and timing factors over stock, to include the ability to delete CELs caused by normal issues and Deletion of a CAT when adding aftermarket DPs... PM me if interested, for I have one for sale
