Looking for NON oiled CAI options for R60/N18

Hi, I've been digging around and can't seem to find any info on which CAI for R60's use a dry filter as opposed to an oiled filter. From what I've read the oiled type are not what I want.... Any ideas are appreciated! Cheers!

I have a dry filter "CAI" in my R60 and bought it from DOS (Defenders of Speed). Great company and great parts.

Really? I was on their site and they do not list one for the R60 as of yet. There is a long thread here about the DOS CAI for the R60 where Clint from DOS talks at length about the development of it but the thread dies in late November or so. Do you have a link to the CAI in their site? Cheers!

Sorry. I thought you were looking for JUST a filer and not a whole system. I did not buy a CAI system from DOS. I bought just their filter, sourced out the fittings, and then made my own bracket and heat shield.

Yep, I would normally say DoS but Clint doesn't advertise his CAI for the R60 yet.

Ahh Ok, that makes sense. I've often wondered if *just* a filter is good enough or to go with a CAI as well but if it's oiled I am not sure I want it.
FYI I emailed Clint today and hopefully he has some good news!

It will come down to do you want from the intake???? A cool sound or more HP or both. The filter inside the engine bay "CAI" discussion will bring out all kinds of people with very strong opinions and too much time on their hands.

I think the killer sound of a "CAI" is well worth the few HP loss on the dyno.
If you are wanting HP you will need to wait for DOS to finish their R&D on the R60.

They should do a pre-order the CAI and use the funds from this pre-order to finish the R&D and give the early pre-order people a good deal on their CAI....just my $.02

Have fun and let us know how it turns out.

Unfortunately I do not have enough time on my hands but I do personally feel that the OEM air intake is superior to anything aftermarket currently on the market for the R60. They are not truly cold air intake, which is my issue. Replacing the OEM filter with something like the AFE dry filter is far better than a open filter sitting in a hot engine bay.

The AFE filter DID increase the BOV sound and it's a washable lifetime filter. The AFE filter is a great option.

I also cut out the plastic on the left side of the grill to give more airflow to the engine. This has significantly cooled me from from 220 to 190-210 engine temp.

AFE is in the bottom of the picture.

1bigpea, I can't tell what you did to the grill.....did the sections of the grill have plastic behind them and you cut them out ? Making them open for more airflow? Thanks

Yes, if you look at the right side in the photo you'll see there are plastic barriers molded into the grill slots. I cut them out and the plasti dipped the whole grill.

As mentioned it's provided much needed airflow to the engine itself and according to my Ultra gauge it's reduced the engine temp by anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees, even more when moving.

Here's a pic of what I cut out.

I found a dry cone filter from AEM at my local parts store. I replaced the oiled foam filter on my alta intake with it. Might work for you.
