Drivetrain Anyone looking to build a BEAST R60?
Anyone looking to build a BEAST R60?
My old R56 has heavily modified and had a lot of power, but the challenge (like many others faced) was the front wheel spin that had such a problem putting that power to the ground.
Obviously, the ALL4 has the advantage of being all wheel drive and distributing that power.
In theory it seems like a Countryman could potentially handle 300+whp and not have traction issues. The rest of the drivetrain may have other limitations, however.
Anyone interested in building a high HP Countryman?

There's been at least one poster who had a very fast Countryman.

You paying?
ETG Tune, AFE Filter, custom Magnaflow exhaust, misc. other small things.

I'll be shooting for close to 300 once we know more about the N18 head, etc.
With the special track tune I now have on here, along with the full mods (once I get the damned IC to work), I should be looking at 240bhp and around 260-270 wtq based on previous exact setup track-only car.
So that's not a bad starting point. Hopefully the A6 transmission is up to the task...

- FMIC
- Full exhaust (w/ high-flow DP)
- Turbo upgrade (JCW or Alta Billet)
- JCW manifold
- Meth kit
- Custom dyno tune (w/ tune for meth)
I gotta think the car would be above 250 and probably closer to 280 with such a setup. The turbo and meth would net the biggest gains with the tune.
Only downside with running a bigger turbo is that your pistons might start to go with that much boost. The meth would help by eliminating hot spots on the pistons and keeping in-cylinder temps down, but it would still be risky.
I have done items #1 and 2, am looking at #5 and will definitely do #6 at some point (though not tuning for meth). I would love to put a JCW turbo on there and tune for it, but I'm scared to blow up the engine.
Theta, here's a possible FMIC solution for you if you don't want to go the Forge/Helix route:
http://www.tyrolsport.com/intercoole...t-intercooler/

Not sure that'd be good for the engine, though, with so much of the radiator blocked!
Kowalski (my countryman) is going to be tyrolsports test car for the FMIC and hopefully other projects in the future. I'll update you with how it goes :-)
P.S.
Lets figure out the most reliable way to get to 300+ hp... I say start with the transmission, that's definitely the weakest link... How do we improve that?

Oh, Kyle... you know better...
The only way to "fix" the transmission is to buy a 2013 or build up the Getrag. They finally upgraded the clutch and internals on the manual. The auto is maxing out at 260, and you know that story...
Almost forgot - rear diff on the A4 will rip itself apart before 300ft/lb on good traction.
I heard you were going to do the TS fitting - hopefully all goes well. Looks like it will fit fine, it's just going to be a numbers game.
Almost bought a '13 JCW R60 yesterday, but can't justify it without the tuning.
