Heavy rain - water in trunk

Was loading the back trunk area with groceries and noticed some wet areas around the corner behind the driver seat. Are there common leaks for the R59? I pulled the cover and Styrofoam pieces out and water was puddling up just under those wires.

Have not seen that in an R59 yet. I would check that convertible top seal near the edge of the side window.

Well it happened again last night. I'm not taking a small amount but maybe a quart or two of water just setting in the bottom section. Checked everything I could and without having someone with a water hose spraying it down I'm stumped. Looking for a waterproof car cover for just the top.

Anyone with one on their R59 give me a shout or suggestions. Not wanting to spend big bucks so keep that in mind.

I agree, that's a fair area to check.

First off do a water hose test. It's the best way to assess the critical nature of the leak.
Check inside. You can crawl in the back area to see if you have water inside the soft top space.

An other thing I would investigate if it happened to me: The soft top retracts in a sort of sealed compartment that has its own drain. It could be that the drain is clogged and water collects in an area that leaks water inside. Seals in cars are often more like water drains than water tight. As long as water flows normally all is well. But if water collects it can sip inside.

And last check the water seal of the retractable spoiler. Unlikely but can't hurt.

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to set this issue aside until warmer weather. I'm looking to get a top cover only but everyone is charging what a full cover cost or it's only UK companies selling.
Going to check for clogged drains as this is very likely. Back window and top appears original to the car. Can't tell if there is additional sealer around the window or not. Would be weird if water came that far across to behind the driver side.
Would opening the top part way give me access to drains? First real convertible as my Fiat 500C Abarth had a roller top on grooves.
Thanks guys

If there is a drain (and I can't imagine there wouldn't be one) it most likely would be located near the seatbelt well near where the mechanism retracts. Likely beneath it. So you might be able to take a look with the top half way down or with a flashlight with the top up.
All of these spaces are tight spaces.
Last, I wonder if you can simply replace the clamp on seal all around the perimeter?

I found some random bolts/screws while investigating. Not sure where these go but the torx head one was back where the top goes down. Anyone?

Found where the torx bolt goes. Strange that it is on the passenger side and my leak appears to be behind the driver side. Wonder if water travels from one place over to the next.

Can't say but it wouldn't surprise me that at least one of them came from the assembly line. I've found extra fasteners in the past in cars.

Yep check the top and under the fabric. As thats the part that moves the most on the R59.

So I had a chance to flush some drain points with the water hose today. They seem to flow pretty well. Then I proceeded to spray the top like rain would. Found out one of the corners where the glass/plastic meets the canvas top had a major leak. Almost looked as if someone may have repaired it in the past, don't know. Top and back window appear original. Any ideas for what I can call it up with?

Water has soaked through area under the foam shelf and the Emergency Control foam box is wet. Top not operating. My weather-stripping is also rotting all over. Age is winning.

I’m suffering the same issues
currently full of newspapers and silicon crystals as a temporary measure
no obvious visible reason for this, beyond the wettest autumn I can recall

Mine [R57] was window separation like post 13, but much further along.
The entire top border of the glass had separated from the top in my case.

Reading these post I feel thankful we keep ours in the garage whenever not in use.
It's amazing what the heat and UV rays can do to rubber and seals :/

Agreed. Mine lives under a (fairly waterproof cover. Had to replace said cover, and got enough minor leakage to fog the windows when it turned cool.

Once the foam case gets wet it's imperative that it be removed and thoroughly dried else it will act as a sponge and ruin your roof motor. Just went through this with a replacement. All in after USD to GBP, fees, shipping, tariffs, about $400 for a replacement roof motor.
Original roof motor water seized solid hunk of rust.
