R59 No new roadsters in 2015?
No new roadsters in 2015?
Hi ya'll,
So I knew that the R59 had been kind of a flop - but I really want one (previously owned a R56). But I wasn't planning on buying until next near. Hopefully a used one with approximately the options I want, but I figured I could do BTO if I get impatient.
I read on some blog (sorry - didn't keep the link - hopefully it is in error) that 2014 was the last model year for the R59 - does this imply no BTOs in 2015?

Assuming BTO is "Built to Order"? Several auto sites are expecting MINI to announce that the R58 Coup and R59 Roadster will not continue. It's not been formally announced that it will be discontinued for the 2015 model year, but most seem to expect them to be phased out sooner than the end of the typical 7 year model cycle (which began in 2012).

Come on people! you know how it goes . . . the more you keep spreading negative rumors the more it will inevitably happen through social influences.
Just start talking about the opposite, how cool the R59, and how likely it is MINI will keep making it even if sales are temporarily slow, and until they come up with its next gen! . . .
Either way, we're not going to get an other one anytime soon so for us we're left to fate in future MINI roadster in a few years from now.

I ordered a 2015 R59 7/28
It's been built and waiting to be shipped over. It is in fact a 2015. They are going to stop production from what I have heard. It may be that at the end of the calendar year they just stop allocating them to dealers.

Unless BTO...you can still get them...and they are 2015s. Mine should hit dealer next week. Just left Spain en route to Baltimore.
The quote you responded to was for an F58 or F50 (i.e. coupe or roadster based on a new BMW chassis)...your's is a R59 with the current MINI frame and body style. Not likely to see MINI investing in the new F body and frame for any low-volume models. There may be a new roadster in the future that shares a frame with a BMW, but it's a few years away.
Enjoy your new roadster!

I just picked up a 2015 S Coupé that I ordered May 7. It took almost two months to get a chassis allocation. I'm told there are now only two in the US and no more builds currently designated. It's probably going to be the same story with Roadsters.....very few and then none.
I just took a factory tour last week. Saw at least 6 Roadsters in various stages of completion, including JCWs, plus several Coupes and LOTS of Convertibles. Reports of their demise are greatly exaggerated...
The tour guide was saying that they didn't get the transition to the F56 right, and there wasn't enough dealer stock at launch, so maybe they changed some R58/R59 build slots over to the five door to make sure that they didn't get caught like that again. There were a good number of five doors on the line.

Now, that fortune seems greater with the impending demise of the line, but at the same time ill-fated because that likely means I will not have another one after this.
Come on, Mini: keep the soul alive!! (That "soul" being this sweet ride of an R59.)

And in other news, there are definitely 2015 Roadsters - we just ordered a new 2015 R59 JCW!
No idea what the future will bring, so we felt like this might be our last chance to make the jump to a JCW from our current S.
Our sales guy said they got NO Coupe slots this quarter, and just two Roadster slots. He had no idea if they would have any slots for Roadster or Coupes next quarter or not.

I think she just out lived her excitement with the TT. She had it for many years and she liked the fact it was powerful but she didn't care for the newer ones. Either she didn't like it or thought it was not new enough. I think it was more the first one.
Anyway, she had some repairs that would start to get expensive on the TT as it started to age so she decided it was time for a change. She still liked the TT very much.
Month before that she spoke about getting a new car and I told her to check out the MINIs since we just had gotten ours. She's not unfamiliar with them since she's originally from England. But she wasn't sure if it would satisfy her need for speed. I told her that the S and JCW are still pretty fast, quick, and so a month or so ago she went for a test drive and apparently was pleased enough to order one

And she went with the S not the JCW...
