Ringing the changes...

I need to get the bonnet/hood repainted next year. I also plan to get the front-only clear bra installed at that time. As part of this, the stripes will need to come off. I'm thinking of keeping them off, so I did a couple of configurator options to see what it would look like.

I'd go from this:

to this, adding the chrome hood scoop and probably the chrome boot/trunk lid handle and the GP2 diffuser too:

I like it a lot, and I would appreciate any comments from you guys.

I think the new look you have envisioned looks superb.

Of course, I'm a bit biased towards the "clean bonnet" look. I think it brings the focus more to the graceful lines of of the bonnet and their flow back to the raked wind screen.

That's my $0.02.

Here the posted part spiney you were asking me for:

Trunk Lid Grip - Chrome ( shared part with R56 / R57/ R58 / R59 )

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Site...53603/ES77817/

Looks like there is possible a change over on the scoop. As 51130413680 is NLA at the time. 51142353882 looks to be the newest part number but there is a split on 6/2013. I will get some more info on that soon.

Here is the JCW GP 2 diffuser Part # 51747330558KT

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51747330558KT/

&

The front matching belly pan kit for the GP 2 if you keep things smooth and clean on the front. Comes with all the extra install hardware.

JCW GP 2 Belly Pan Kit Part # 51757330566KT

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51757330566KT/ES2642513/

Thanks and looks very nice. I really like the lighting blue.

Spiney-

Another 2 cents...de-striped looks great, and loving the chrome theme For me, the Roadster without stripes looks visually wider, more substantial.

I'm a fan of the stripes, but variety is the spice of life. Go for it; your vision looks great!

As you can see, I'm not a fan of stripes on a Roadster. Stripes catch one's eye, so I want no distractions when people glance at the clean, sporty lines of my Roadster. Just my 2 cent opinion.

Step one complete. Fitted the new boot/trunk handle. Dead simple, four screws to remove with a Torx T20, one wire to swap over and it was back on.

After:

Really happy with this. It wasn't expensive, and I think it dresses up the rear of the car very nicely. I'll post more stuff in this thread over time as I get the other mods done.

Started accumulating the parts. Ordered GP2 diffuser today from ECS Tuning. I wanted to make sure I got it on hand just in case it starts getting harder to come by for some reason, what with the focus on the new models at MINI and all.

Spiney, your Roadster has always looked great and the silver stripes go really well with your blue. However I am also a fan of chrome and your plans for no stripes and more chrome is equally good looking. I am learning that is the best part of owning a MINI….ALL the choices we have! Look forward to more of your changes! Ken-

The good thing is it's not permanent. I'll go take a look at the car at the body shop after they paint the bonnet/hood, and if I really don't like it at that point I'll just put the stripes back instead of removing them from the boot/trunk. Or I could take them off and go custom stripes...

You're contemplating removing your stripes, spiney? I'm still contemplating putting stripes on. I think I agree with Steven, the chrome theme for your Lightening Blue Roadster would be fantastic.

More parts ordered: chrome hood scoop, insulation piece for underneath, and rear mud flaps to go with the ones I modified and put on the front (see here).

One day it will stop snowing and I'll get some of these things on the car!

I not sure I like how heavy the Justa grill looks, spiney. How would you balance the bottom grill to stop it from looking like a black hole?

If I can get those for the JCW kit then that would be my choice too. Anyone have part numbers?

O.K., Gil-galad and spiney, I've been toying with that idea a few weeks before my beloved Roadster arrived last May. I've even gone as far as researching having the existing black ones chromed here locally. I was hoping that a MINI parts retailer might make these available online. That would be my resolution and I will be doing this to my Roadster as soon as I can figure out the details.

Maybe we can do a "group buy" and get a few sets chromed up?
