Buy a base roadster or an S convertible??
I need to purchase my MINI in a few days, meaning from dealer stock. None of their roadsters are the "S."
I am coming from the S convertible, which is great. But, I can live with a "little" less power. I live in the suburbs and I am not an overly aggressive driver. That means that people who weave in and out passing everyone on the highway will be passing me, too.
I will be test driving the roadster today, but a 5 minute drive might be misleading. The fun of the roadster may make me overlook what I will later regret as being "underpowered" for my taste.
I know it is a matter of taste and driving style to some extent, but I don't want it to suck. Why get a MINI is it isn't a blast to drive? I would be happy with another S convertible but the roadster...
Anybody have a chance to drive both the S and standard roadster?
Thanks,
dumb S

Good luck hope you find one you like.
It will be nice to see another roadster on the L.I.E.
Got mine from Hassel ( have not had a problem passing yet)

I had a chance to drive both. Before I bought the S I thought I had settled on the base roadster, until I drove the S. The base car is really nice don't get me wrong, but the S seemed to handle better (although both had the sport package and 17" wheels), sound better (exhaust note), and obviously peppier. There were also little touches like the chrome pedals on the S that were just black on the base version that I liked better on the S. They are both really nice looking cars, but the S had some details that look sportier and the base has details that make it look more classic like more chrome on the grille.
