Am I too late?

I placed an order for a Coupe on Monday morning (It's Tuesday night now). I decided I want to change my order to a Roadster. The dealer said something about 112 status.

Am I too late to change my order?

The dealer would be the one to say whether you are too late. I'd guess if you ordered a fairly standard build they could just have that one for the lot and sell you the roadster.

I called ASK Mini and this morning it went from Scheduled for Production to In Production but with a estimated completion time of August 31st. I'm hoping I can still revise my order but this doesn't look good.

I would call your MA and ask.
Like ThomB says, maybe the dealer will take your Coupe for the lot and let you order the Roadster.
Will the Roadster cost more?
If so, that will be in your favor.

I've been trying to get hold of someone at the dealership where I ordered. I've made three calls in the last two hours and can't get in touch with anyone. My status changed to "In Production" sometime this morning between 2:30am and 6:30am. The estimated time to complete was August 31st and I was hoping there was a delay that would let them cancel my order but knowing this is time sensitive and not being able to touch base with anyone is very frustrating.

Email your MA and the sales manager as well as continue calling. If you don't have their email addresses you can find them on
your dealer's website under the "About Us" tab, then click on "Our People."
It must be frustrating to not be able to get through to anyone on a Wednesday morning.
Good luck.

I got a call back from the person who I place the order through. She confirmed it's now "In Production" with an estimated complete of August 31st. She said she's going to ask the sales manager when they get out of a meeting if they'll put it on the lot and let me re-order without losing my deposit. At this point I'm just waiting. I'm hoping that since it's a 2013 and I'm paying MSRP that they'll let me do it. If they're selling as fast as they say then it shouldn't be a problem for them.

I hope they can do this for you.
When you buy a brand new car it should be just what you want!

Crisis averted. They're going to put my first order on the lot and let me order the Roadster. I'm unbelievably happy about it. I'm going to have to come up with a little thank you gift for my sales person and sales manager.

That's great customer service!
What your dealer just earned in loyalty is invaluable.
I'm very happy for you.
Now, you are obligated to post pics of your Roadster when it arrives.

Yeah, everybody wants pix . Nice the way this turned out. I can see it now: the Coupe you ordered will come in and be on the lot. Then the Roadster you ordered will come in and you'll be picking it up and see the Coupe and you'll change your mind AGAIN! Then your wife will talk you into buying them both so she can drive one too. The MA wins Salesman of the Month for putting you together twice. Everybody wins.

Question is, what did you want to change about the order?

Are you sure the complete date isn't July 31? August 31 would be an awful long time to be in production.

100% sure. When I spoke to the sales rep she even said the same thing but confirmed the estimated completion date was Aug. 31st. When the sales manager gets back in the office tomorrow I get to place my roadster order. This order finally showed up in the owners lounge so I used that production number to register and it'll be interesting to watch both cars go through production.

Got an email back today. Apparently they need to wait for a slot to order the car and it'll be a week or two (hopefully). Not sure if that's because I wasted it ordering the coupe or if that is normal.

That's weird. The Mini Owners Lounge still shows the car as scheduled for production.

Patiently (almost) waiting for a slot to order my Roadster.

Hate to tell you this, and I hope my salesman is wrong, but .....

He says that there are no more August build orders available. They re now taking orders for the Septemner build which could men you won't get your roadster until October or maybe even November. While not exactly a "limited edition" they are only building a certain number each month.

I really hope I'm wrong.

I hope that isn't the case. I just took a deposit on my existing car and I don't want to be in a rental that long.

I contacted my salesperson and she wasn't aware of the August shutdown. Not getting an August production slot doesn't seem like a big deal at this point. I'm first in line when September opens up. Hopefully I'll get my car around Halloween.

Wasn't aware? Oh, please! They have been shutting down the factory every summer for years. Not only MINI, but much of Europe. They take "going on holiday" very seriously. It is very, very annoying when the sales people don't know what they're talking about. "Do your homework lady, you're getting paid to give accurate answers based on facts, not guess work!"

As of last Thursday I still hadn't placed a order for a roadster and had been emailing and leaving voice mails for two days. I was told over a month ago they would order it in 1-2 weeks, then I was told the first of September, then I was told early last week. Finally I gave up and placed an order with another dealer that was easy to communicate with. Just now I got an email reply to my message from last Wednesday (today's Saturday) saying that they would not refund my deposit.

I had an order for a Coupe make it into production before I changed my mind and wanted a roadster but if they'd cancelled it when I asked it wouldn't have been an issue. At this point they're going to get a red coupe which I'm sure they'll have no problems selling (looks just like the one in the brochure) but they want to keep my $1000.

This is the dealership in OKC but the way.
