R59 Road Noise question
Road Noise question
I have been considering a Roadster but I am a bit worried about the road noise with the top up. I did test drive one and did not notice much noise but many reviews suggest that with the top up the roadster is very noisy due to wind buffeting across the single layer fabric roof.
What do you experience?
I do travel on the highway a lot and typically go 75-80mph. Is the noise that pronounced?
Thanks for your help and comments!

We only have 300 miles on ours, and have quite a few at the speeds you typically travel and have no issue with road noise at all. It will be slightly louder than a non-convertible but not enough to be bothersome.
My feeling is that if you don't like little noises like road noise or some top rattles, then don't buy a convertible. Besides, the top should always be down unless it's raining and then you'll be hearing the rain instead of road noise. It's a great car, just enjoy it for what it is.
Thanks guys - I appreciate the feedback. I am very excited about the Roadster and will go ahead and place my order. I just got spooked by some of the reviews that made it sound like it is super noisy. I didn't notice that on my test drive but I also didn't get up much over 55.

I've put a little over 1K miles on mine. I previously owned an 05' R52(convertible). That car was genuinely loud/noisey inside. It sounded like you always had a window down. The new Roadster, even with a single ply canvas top is much much quieter. I have no issues using Bluetooth while driving 75-80mph. Hope this helps.

Just hit 1000 miles and 37 hours of top down. Can't think of one time where I said to myself, wow that road noise is bad. The top is down all the time so it could be 4 ply and it wouldn't make a difference. I did finally drive it with the top up in traffic and it took a bit getting used to with blind spots. Not one real issue so far.

My first two cars were English roadsters back in the '60s and '70s. Roadsters are just that 'road' sters. It's all about the total experience; the sounds, the feel, the wind in your hair and the sun on your face.
If Madison Avenue has convinced you like millions of other americans that you need to be protected from the outside world, you are in the wrong market.
Rain shouldn't always put the top up. If you are on the road at a decent speed the air stream will keep you dry. Hopefully you'll come out from under the clouds before you have to slow down. Enjoy the looks on other driver's faces.
Cold? 28°? That's what hats, coats, gloves and the heater are for.
