Id love to get one of those for my car but for $175 come on. Its a $15 shade with a graphic on it. I can see maybe $40-$50.
Sorry

Totally agree with you, automan21. That is ridiculous.

Actually, it's not a $15 shade, unless you are buying a far cheaper one than supplied. I think I paid close to $50 for my OEM shade. Plus, you can have totally custom graphics for that price, in addition to matching your own car color and eye color preferences. And $20 of that is packing/shipping. Quite reasonable for the work and materials involved, IMHO.

$150+ for something that doesn't effect horsepower or impacts the cars performance. I'd pass on it. But to each his/her own, enjoy. I'd love to get one but not for that kinda money.

No one is saying that you should buy them... But maybe we should apply this same criteria to other things we buy for our cars? Like.... Stripes and graphics, carbon fiber overlays, fancy wheels, noisy exhaust, black out kits, upgraded audio, etc? Lol if it enhances your enjoyment of the car, and you look forward to having it in your car, it's not a waste. :-) I love my eyeshades and use them every day, and several people have stopped to snap a picture of the car in a parking lot or brought their kids over to show them! And especially for group events like AMVIV or MTTS, the eyeshades will give a great deal of pleasure!

LOL, I seem to remember this argument once before. I can find better things myself to spend 200 bucks on.

Looks like Dittin lowered her price to $155. Still too rich for my blood but I guess many like it.

I love the way these look but agree the cost is pretty high. Anyone have information on how they hold up after a few months in the glaring sunshine and heat of the car interior?

Can't say yet, Mini Me 2009, I've only had mine a couple of weeks and it hasn't gotten really hot here yet, but it is the OEM sunshade with a printed vinyl overlay, just like we put on the outside of our cars, and since we tend to let those stay out in rain, heat and wind, it's likely that the vinyl inside of the windshield will hold up well also. :-) It is very well done, and fits fabulously. Keeps the car cool and keeps the dash from fading. It also comes with a nice carrying bag to keep it in when you aren't using it, and it very easily folds and slips behind the seat.

I got a real grin a couple of days ago, Winnie was parked with the sunshades on, and a lady and her little kid walked by. She did a double take, walked back, hoisted her little boy up and showed him... he squealed. She put him down and took a picture with her phone. I watched the little scene from our table at the restaurant, and it just tickled me. That little boy will probably talk about it for days! And I plan to buy one for my son's Jeep for his birthday. He parks in the sun all day at work and it does get hot, especially the steering wheel. Think I will get him "The Rock"!

Thought I should chime in here.

I'm glad that those who have purchased an Eyeshade are enjoying them! That's what they are for! Sure, they keep the car cooler, but they really are an accessory like the graphics on the outside of your car.

The price is absolutely related to the materials that go into them. Vinyl is very expensive as is the printing process. The shades are the highest quality out there and each one is cut and sewn just to fit each car. I wanted them to be made with the best stuff there is so that they last. I'm even including nice storage bags with each sunshade.

You can't forget that I put a lot of time into each one and design them to order, matching up car colors. They are pieces of art!

They are all about the fun value along with functionality.

So, a regular sunshade is for keeping the sun off. An Eyeshade is for keeping the sun off with attitude.

The point is ART!

Off and on I see this debate raise it's head.

I love to mod my MINI, I have been remiss, I need a sun shade for the Countryman.

Cost aside, Dittin is an artist first and foremost. We get value in different ways.

If you love art and it makes you smile, buy an EyeShade, if you like to MOD buy a few mods, spend your money however you want, it is your money.

Again, I say it is ART, you enjoy or you don't.

So, need to get a subtle one for my wife and her CM.

Don

My Eyeshades get constant attention, because I use them everywhere I go. Kids love to see them, and many adults stop and take a few steps back to look again, or take a picture. I've gotten more than my money's worth already just from the entertainment value, let alone how cool they keep the car! I can't imagine my car without them now. They add another layer to the attention that our cars tend to get anyway. "The eyes are the window to the soul" now means "The eyes in the window are the soul"!

Sorry Don, but I don't see them as art, just a cartoon drawing that is done on a computer and easily manipulated. It isn't that hard to do really. Having family that are artists, I understand and respect art, but in my opinion they are just sunshades with vinyl on them. Laying the vinyl is the hardest part most likely. I respect what she is creating, but I am entitled to my opinion on it. I have a sunshade and it works just fine. If they were under a hundred, I might consider it but even then, I am more apt to find something else to sink my money into.

If you like Dittin's work, that is great and if someone is looking for a shade like that I will likely point her out, but I still think it is way overpriced.

To each his own. That to me is the best part of the mini approach.
Every time I see mine makes me giggle, to me worth every penny.
If I was trying to be practical I would have bought a ford fiesta, I wanted something with personality.

Hi daflake! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to me, art is what moves people. It creates emotion. A simple, elegant flower arrangement is art to the Japanese culture. (Ikebana) But it's just a flower, and a couple of sticks, and a little vase! It is the emotion it creates, and has little to do with how simple it is to do (which it hardly ever is as simple as it looks) or what the materials are. Art is a photograph of a sunset, or a jewelry setting. Art can be a simple stoneware plate, hand thrown and with a flash of color in the glaze. Do you know how quickly a potter throws and decorates a plate? Art is one masterful flow of a calligraphy brush. So whether it is vinyl, or ceramic, or organic in origin.. it is all about people's responses to it. Hey, I don't want to talk you into a different opinion... that never actually works, despite how many times we all try... but from my point of view, my Eyeshade IS art, because it makes people smile. They do a double take, then they grin, and take a picture. It has made the car into something different... something with a personality that it didn't have before. To me, that is as valid as any other art piece. I make my living in the art world, have for sixteen years, being a mold maker for some of the best equine artists out there. So I'll see your family of artists, and raise you a career of buying and selling art. My pieces tend to go from $500 to $1500 each. :-) To me, what Dittin sells is totally worth the price. And I plan to buy another one too! So if people want to buy them, super, and if not, that's cool too... but we don't all accept the same definition of art, not by a long shot!!

No we don't and as I said, I am entitled to my opinion. I'm super happy for you and all the others that have bought off of her and I will point people to her, but I will state that they are expensive and that I don't personally think they are worth it.

I can toss mud on a canvas and call it art.

FYI, the comment about my family was only to show that I am familiar with art. It wasn't a competition.

And if people buy it, and enjoy it, and show it off... then it's art, yes. Stranger methods have been used.

I love what Noreen said.... about wanting personality in her car. That's exactly it. There were a lot of cars at AMVIV in Vegas, but my Winnie had her Eyeshades in the car show, and a lot of people noticed and commented very positively. That was what $170 bought for me. (including shipping, give or take a bit)

You know, we took our kids out to El Torito for dinner the other day. Six adults, a few appetizers and a couple of Mojitos... cost about the same as an Eyeshade. And what happened to that food.... Well, it's only a memory now. Where the Eyeshade gives pleasure every day. It's all relative.

Once again (and the last time), I am happy for you. I have seen the shades and I had a couple say that it looked stupid, what does that mean?

Bottom line is that I don't care what you put in your window. I'm glad it makes you happy. It is still, in my opinion, over priced for what it is. Clearly she thought so as well considering she lowered the price after I called her on it the first time. But hey, it is your money. You don't have to convince me that you made a sound purchase.
