what did you use to blackened? I've been considering it but I'm still uncertain... I have a few options.

Very stylish by the way

That's great. That's what I was thinking about using but I wanted to see if you used something else such as "Forever Black" for example (black stain for bumper plastic parts like these). I've used it on another car with great results. The advantage over the Vinyl is that if you slightly scrape the parts you just apply more over it, while with the vinyl you'd have to re do it. But the vinyl if far more appealing...

I never take the time to take pictures of our MINI . . . so this bad phone pics will have to do for now

Back to the car after Sushi lunch:
Winter tires are still on the car. I wander when I'll be able to put the summer wheels on?

That's a mighty fine pic for a phone. Looking good! For some reason I never think to fold in my mirrors...

I'm surprised your lawns are so green there already.

Yes, it depends where we park. I don't think of it a lot either but my wife reminded me for some reason today. She uses it a lot.

It's not as green as you think it is. This is not in front of our place but not too far from the restaurant we went to. The grass looks more green on the picture than it is if you look at it up close. Most lawns haven't grown much yet around here either. The winter was so harsh on the greenery this year... I have 12 lavender on the side of our house I think have died. Most of my garden herbs are dead too, as well as a big portion of ground cover ivy. Le lavender is a bit sad considering the time it took me to plant those and how I like to harvest it at the end of the season . . .

Number 27 in our regular feature of "Uses and Abuses of a Roadster" is:

Using the Euro-only bumper-mount bike rack and front tow hook to carry two 13 foot lengths of plastic guttering (the delivery cost from a couple of miles away was twice the price of the guttering!).

Having a fun car doesn't mean it can't be useful too. Or as Red Green never said: "Even if the women find you handsome, they can also find you handy".

Couldn't agree more. As an ex-pat Brit here in the US I'm constantly amazed that people think they need a half-ton pickup to do a large grocery shop... When I had my R53 I used it to bring home a decent sized gas grill. The guy at the hardware shop's eyes popped out of his head when I drove up in the MINI to pick it up, but he had a newfound respect when I got it in there. I also used the bike rack on the Clubman to bring home a giant wheelbarrow, again to amazed looks. They should have seen us get a three foot diameter round table top INSIDE a 1973 Mini 1000 when we lived in the UK!

I know exactly what you mean! Being an ex-pat french living in the States for the last 16 years I've got pretty interesting stare and disbelief when I bought some relatively long and heavy lumber and carried it on a roof rack of my Volvo S40 T5 which is relatively compact per US standards. It's the same as when I fold down the back seats and fully load the trunk with mulch bags or gravel.
I love to see clerk's face expression when I pull in front of a home depot with loads on a cart and start to open my trunk. Always priceless

I get it here though, it's all about convenience. Why making it harder if you can do it more easily. I respect that very much.

But it is still awesome to see this once in a while. Great pic Angib
I'm all after the idea that useful or practical doesn't need to be a replacement for fun or other things...

Lol have half ton pick-up truck, sitting in my driveway nearly a year since it moved.

We are a large family so regular shopping at the local warehouse club is a must we, usually take the MINI.

Roadster has no problems holding the load. Although we did draw a crowd placing box of 1000 disposable cups in.

What was supposed to be my commuter car has become so much more...

I have a request!

I would like to see a few pictures of the well into which the roof's frame bars recede. Also the little gap between the rubber and where the top of the open roof sits and underneath that, if that is possible.

Thank you!

A strange enough request that I had to comply....

If you are thinking of clamps fitting under the lip when the hood is down, remember that one thickness of hood cloth would be clamped as well.

Thank you! I'm trying to figure out if you could put a winter roof on it. My local dealer doesn't have a Roadster, so I will have to go 7 hours to Minneapolis or 9 hours to Saskatoon. Maybe Regina, there's no inventory on-line, I'll have to call them.

I have a reason to go South, so I may get to see one. I will also have to travel to test an F56 because the local dealer has no automatics. That dealer in Minneapolis must be huge. We'll see within the next few weeks!

I tried to email Smoothline, who make fibreglass roofs for lots of cars, through their website but they didn't respond. I will try calling them. But what I would really want, if I do get a Roadster, is something like the original Corvette roof, I think that would look great. I'll have to Photoshop that!

It sounds quite exciting. I'll be looking out for your progress on this if you can pull it off

There are so many issues though that makes it difficult, one of which might be that it is more likely that a hard top would be installed with the soft top down which I would be afraid would be bad for the soft top for long periods of time. There will also be a lot of electronic issues with sensors detecting roof up and down. Other issues like window seals, anchor hardware, etc... It's challenging no doubt but exciting at the same time

As I have said elsewhere, there just isn't anywhere for the bottom of a hardtop to sit because the trunk/boot lid comes right up to the roof. What looks like a narrow black rim is just soft rubber, so the hardtop couldn't sit on that.

And all this assumes someone would want to tool up for a low-volume convertible where most owners were quite happy to have just the fabric roof for winter. Not a money-making proposition, I think.
