I am excited to Join the R58 club

Today was a difficult day for me to say goodbye to Aonyx, my beloved Electric Blue 2002 R53 (although I'm happy to say goodbye to the hemorrhaging of oil). I literally cried over this.

I am happy to say that I am now the proud owner of this yet-to-be-named 2012 Cooper S Coupe!

It has 39k miles on it and it really is in good condition. I can't wait to explore more about this car and really make it "mine".

Funny thing, I don't think it has the sport package. It has halogen lights at 16" rims. I really wanted the 17" rims with Xenons, but there weren't any in my area at the price I wanted to pay. Is there a way to search by the VIN for which packages were installed originally? I know its 6/2012 build from the realoem website, but I dunno if there's another way to find more info!

Thanks!

As a side note, after hearing all of the issues people have had with stripes fading etc, I don't really need them. I do plan on getting rid of the chrome light rings and grille ring in favor of black at some point, though

You're right - the stripes fade; ad least mine did. I plan on replacing mine but then again I have a vinyl cutter, so I'll be customizing too...

For stock options, there's this: http://bimmer.work/query.php just put in your VIN.

Yea, R58 JCW had mine fade, second set is holding up well. Used some CG stuff and works with the UV blocker.

Those BMW VIN sites work well, if there was installed options at the dealer they will not show up on the build source.

I really do wanna get some black stripes to match the roof at some point. Chicago winter and my budget is making it difficult to start a DIY right now

Very nice! Congratulations! We use www.mightystripes.com for a great cheaper alternative for stripes. Have them on our R53. Do you plan to black out your chrome bits? Might go well with the black roof/mirror caps.

Definitely plan on blacking them out! Except maybe the door handles, at least for now. I'm not a fan of chrome in general.

Great,

Yes you can spend allot of time looking at MINI car parts, we have a very large parts site, most likely the largest for MINI.

It does have the spoiler It handles very well indeed. Drives a bit differently than my old R53 (I hope so after 10 years). I love it

Yeah I just got it a few weeks back nice fun little car.

Had looked at the hood strips today and noticed they were breaking down had them replaced by a local guy.

Called the dealer but they didn't return my call it would have been a warranty item.
The roof cost me $200.

I am happy my Coupe never came with stripes and it will never get them.

A detailing job with wax may be a nightmare if these strips are peeling or in bad shape.

If I am right, the roof is aluminum alloy and the stripes are "cooking" faster than other surfaces.

Just my opinion.

Never owned a Daily driver with decals but have several race vehicles with loads of them.

They aren't that bad to take care of they look good and make the car pop.

Having had the headliner off in the Coupe, I don't think it's aluminum but I do definitely like the stripes. I've got a vinyl cutter and I'm going to replace my stripes myself. Common problem on the Coupe, I'm afraid. My hood stripes cooked the fastest, the roof is actually not bad. Go figure!

How are they to take off? Do they come off fairly easily if they start looking worn/crummy?

Awesome, those are common together, back in 2004 when MINI was starting up they did a survey at MINIUSA and the most common vehicles to be parked in the garage next to a MINI was a Porsche. Looks like thing have not changed

I have taken them off with hair dryer and a soft plastic edge card or plastic putty knife. If you set it in the hot sun they come off easier.

Once I got my new one they have been fine :
