As the R56 second generation hatchback has ended production, and been superseded by the F56, continuing to produce other models based on the second generation platform became impractical. Now that the second generation R57 convertible has been superseded by the F57 third generation car, continuing to produce either Roadster or Coupés wouldn't be economic. Also, I don't think either model was such a sales success that Mini minded about ending them.
I'm not interested in buying one, I was just wondering why they weren't on the website.
Strange, when I bought my Clubman in '09 they were saying that is was not going to be continued either. In a sense, maybe they were right, it did lose its club door. By-the-way, I bought my Mini S new in October of '09 and have just a little over 5,000 miles on it - it's in mint condition. I plan on keeping it forever and at the rate I'm putting on miles it should make it!
If I'm not mistaken, the "R" stood for Rover - so what does the "F" stand for?
Totally arbitrary, but the F is because BMWs had E designations and with the generation changeover (and the fact that BMWs and MINIs share more than ever), F was the logical next designation. The 7-series is the first of the next gen and is aptly designated G. The rest of the BMW lineup will follow over the next few years.

Well they did discontinue it in 2014 and brought back the next gen Clubman this year. Not sure why you were told in 09 they were discontinuing it! It had just come out!
The year before they announced its demise they only sold 1000 Coupes in the US. The Roadster wasn't any better. By contrast the Countryman had climbed to be the top seller over the hatchback by then. 2 seats and 2 doors is 2 too few. People want more space!
Or...or...or..."people" just didn't know about them. MINI incessantly promoted the non-mini MINIs, but were graveyard silent about the 2-seater models.
Other than my last shopping trip with my roommate, where he had to hold a couple of things on his lap after the Costco stop that followed shopping for some housewares, I have never, ever had any issues with space in my Coupe, and that's going on 4 years this May.
The Coupe and the Roadster represent the ideals of the brand much, much better than the ever increasing monstrosities that BMW is now cranking out.

They don't know about them. I drive one and I see maybe a couple a year. The JCW version are even more rare. I have seen many of them, like 15 a once on MTTS 2014.
I know i am the only one with a painted alpine white top.
