R58 My first WOT to 100 MPH!
My first WOT to 100 MPH!
MCS R58 - I've had my car for a few months, it is "broken in" and I decided to try my first WOT to 100. I was not timing it, I just wanted to finally see what I would get. I am completely stock except the change from stock air filter to L&N. I got a slight wheel spin off the line, but smooth shifts (automatic). I got to 100 a lot faster than I thought and the car felt solid underneath me the whole time. I could have easily kept it accelerating but decided to back off at 105.
I never knew I had this much power - a huge leap from my R50.

Heh, I did that on the way home from the dealer when I bought my MINI. There was about 25 miles on the odometer. I romped on it from a stop sign, I got it a little over 100 too and started running out of road, so I had to slow down to 60 for a 35 mile per hour turn. It's fun, Isn'it?
I must have done the right thing, it doesn't burn any oil!

I've had the R50 over 100MPH a few times. Not as quick to get there as my CBR600 was, that's for sure. The wipers were screaming bloody murder as the wind tried to tear them off, too.
I'd still take it over an R56 S though

I thought about it - but I hardly test the limits of the car as is. Why would I risk placing a tune modification on it? What would it gain? Maybe a 1/4 of a second for 0-60?

I've yet to get a trap speed as the car will never hit a drag strip. And all the roads are garbage in Downtown Los Angeles, no 0-60 lol.
The extra torque is fun though. It's all about the fun factor.
I'll try to get a dyno very soon, just working out some things with a methanol kit I have installed.
But there's nothing wrong with a stock car, these Coupes are still just as fun.

Fast
I am never disappointed in the S Coupe. I previous drove a Corolla and current have an old Buick LaCrosse that I sort of inherited that I drive as well.
My thought when going for the S model was I wanted something with a little pickup for around here. They sort of drive crazy in Atlanta.
Town driving, then lots of Hwy 78 speeds vary 45-65Mph. Some will do well over 80 in the fast lane.
My goal was not speed, but if you need instant on for whatever reason it is not sluggish like so many cheap under powered cars. Think something like Yugo.
I can tell you from driving the Buick or other cars that this little one has scared me a few times. I forget it has the Turbo. A little too much gas at say 30 mph and you will be surprised.
I may have been fine without the S model but I don't regret it. Reminds me of the 3 series BMW I drove. Power if you need it. I like that best.

Turbo
I think I have kicked in the Turbo three maybe four times since I purchased the car. Yes, I baby it big time. Got about 5K miles on it.
The dealer said they used to tell people to enjoy the on ramps. What?
Well, the carbon build up is not a problem on the 2013 model like the older ones - so I am told.
I am sure at the speeds I drive (slow) I have no business with such a fine automobile. Fast was for when I was young. Now old and getting there is more important before I forget where I was going......
Maybe it is still good to enjoy the on ramps? Anyway, the car is so much fun at any speed.
