R58 R58 non S gas mileage?
R58 non S gas mileage?
My hubby is considering a base model Coupe. He loves the Coupe styling but has no desire for a turbo, it would primarily be a commuter car and he would join in club events on the weekends. Looking at the roll call on this subforum, looks like about 10% of the Coupes are base models... so how is your gas mileage? Are you pleased with your car?
I drive my base coupe 100 miles a day and have 5500 miles on it now. The obc claims I'm getting 41 mpg but I think it's more like 38-40 ish. I have a couple minor bugs in it but I still love the car. I just hope it can handle my commute for the long haul!
Thank you, Cruzer, that is exactly what we were looking for! My MINI's OBC is consistently +2 on mileage over actual mileage. Just a little algorithm to make us all feel good. LOL.
Beautiful car, by the way!!!!

And I do believe, Sir, that I can lay this at your doorstep, considering that he had seen the CR/B Coupe before. But apparently two Coupes and two delighted owners tipped the scales slightly.

LOL! I think it may have had something to do with the "gas math" dicussion as well. The cost of gas for a truck versus the cost of a car payment with gas on a more econmical vehicleawa. Kind of hard to argue the logic there. Maybe you can get your son to copilot?

Yes, that is indeed his argument, and he is enthusiastic about it. The amusing part is that he has no interest in the Hondas, Kias, Hyundais, Acuras, Toyotas, etc. that are comparable. Only the Coupe! So we are going to test drive one next month.
The other factor that you would not be aware of, is that I can ignore a dirty old truck in the driveway, but not a dirty MINI, so he knows that he would get a free car wash and detailing every weekend. I've owned Winnie for over a year, and have not missed a weekly washing except when it is actually raining, and that just delays it. I'm the only person on the block who washes their car AFTER it rains.
I really think that when I bought Winnie, he thought that MINIs were... well... for gals. "That funny little car that my wife loves". Now that he sees that GUYS who he respects are enthusiastic MINI owners, at club events, and after doing MTTS and seeing the devotion of the MINI owners, he sees that MINIs are more than just funny little cars. He sees the AutoX guys, and the track guys, and the twisty run guys, and he's getting a very different picture now.

JoanieB,
Ha! Ha! Ha! Yes, that was the logic I used (as I explained at the breakfast). Something on the order of "When gas hits X $'s a gallon, you are at a break even point. Several hundred of bucks a month in gas, or a hundred a month in gas and a car payment. Keep the truck, and have a new car to boot!"
Glad Rich and I could be of assistance!

The computer tells me around 32 or 33 for a mix of about 65% city and 35% highway driving. That's still about 7 or 8 mpg better than I used to get with my old '06 Cooper. I leave the display set to the instantaneous mpg setting and try to hit 99.9 as much as possible. I have been using the sport button a bit more lately which allows must harder acceleration that seems to have dropped the mpgs a bit. But it is a lot more fun.
I could've chosen a boring, bland so so econobox for my short 10 mile one way mostly stop and go commute, but the fun factor won out. So I "suffer" with an average high 20's mpg city driving. But I enjoy those miles more so now than ever before.
It's still better than 14.5 mpg I was getting in my Toyota Tundra.
