Interesting spoiler control development

So last week, I took my MCS Coupé into my nearest dealership to have the radio replaced due to a faulty button. At one point in the process, one of the SA's told me they just had to re-flash the ECU ad the car would be ready.

As I left the dealership, my friend MINIBee appeared to be delivering a new Clubman, so as I pulled past, I activated the spoiler for kicks as I waved. I don't manually activate the spoiler very often.

When I reached my destination and killed the ignition, I saw the "Spoiler Up" warning graphic, and sure enough, it was still raised.

So guess what. I have now tested this no less than half a dozen times. When I manually activate my spoiler, it now STAYS UP. Period. Even when I shut the car off.

When I kill the ignition, I get the "Spoiler Up" warning graphic.

When I start it back up, though, it reverts to what was previously the "normal" mode- as soon as I hit 51mph, the spoiler will then retract at 39mph on the way down again. If I want it to stay up, after I re-start the car, I have to manually activate it again.

I need to see if tapping the manual "Up" toggle while it is still up (after a restart) will prevent the auto-down.

I will still probably rarely use the manual spoiler controls, but I figured there were folks on here who might like to know this.

That's how mine has always worked. I wonder if it has something to do with build time, mine was built 4/4/12. When I took my Roadster in for it's first oil change, my SA asked how I was able to keep the spoiler up after the ignition is switched off. He had not seen that before. Hmmm.

Bluetoy,

Mine's a 3/12 build date, and does not stay up after hitting 51 and dropping back down below 37mph.

Maybe we have found the date when the PROM flash was changed(?).

Mine works that way as well.. It will stay up indefinitely when you manually raise it.. until you hit the magic 50 and then it will lower every time you go below 37.
Yes, it's super annoying and they really need to address this in a software update!

Not sure if you are describing what I experience but, If I manually raise the wing it will stay up at all times, even when the car is turned off as long as I don't hit the 51MPH mark. If I do hit 51MPH I'm assuming it goes into automatic mode..which means it goes down once I go below 37MPH.

Edit:
Basically what 'nfo' stated

Not sure you quite understood what I was saying. Mine USED TO work that way. Now, it stays up regardless of speeds achieved. The caveat being that after I shut the car off & re-start, the old "51/39" rule applies once again.

It still baffles me that in this digital age, people's spoiler up/down speeds aren't the same.

May very well be that a software update changed this. My Coupé was built in the first week of production last September. I just wondered if the change I noticed was an update that all recent builds came with, if it was a brand new change, or maybe a glitch.

That would actually be perfect.. I may have to visit the dealer soon!

Interesting...I had my Coupe in to have a noisy water pump replaced. Wonder if there was any updates applied. Need to try it when I get back home.
