Schroth harness in a Coupe?

Has anyone tried to install the Schroth quickfit harness in a coupe yet? I wonder if under all the plastic cladding if there is a suitable harness point behind the seats...

There is no rear seat in a coupe....the Schroth harness clips into the rear seat seatbelt clips - where would you plug it in?

Duct tape, of course.

But as MINIdave stated about the rear seat, it will not work.

Are you planning on autocrossing your car?

You could put a trackbar in and buy a Schroth harness made for a trackbar....I'm not sure if the one that works on the regular hatch would work on the coupe.

I understand the coupe is built on the convertible's platform, so if they make a trackbar for a convertible, maybe that would work?

It's also possible that the seat belt locations are already there, under the covering. If they are, all you 'd need to do is buy the appropriate seat belt socket and bolts, then a regular harness would work. I think I'd check that first!

I'm pretty sure it's not possible to attach "the one that works on the regular hatch" (assuming you mean the Hardbar harness bar or similar) because it appears to bolt in around the B pillar seatbelt attachment point, and the seat belts in the Coupé and Roadster are separate from the B pillar at that point. (Presumably the "B pillar" doesn't exist as such on the Convertible or Roadster; I don't see how it could, frankly, and it doesn't on any convertible I've ever owned, which is several. )

At some point this summer I may pull some trim panels out and see what's underneath, but the most promising location in a Coupé would probably be to tie in to the unibody between the B and C pillars. There's likely to be metal that's strong enough and high enough that you wouldn't have problems because of the angle of the shoulder belts. Further back you run into the bulkhead between the boot and the cockpit, which would require an awful lot of cutting and fitting to mount a harness bar (since the bulkhead itself is just thin sheet metal and plastic, and not able to take the strains of a racing harness.).

Yup autocrossing Taz. I don't want to spend the next few years doing the yank and seat adjust trick. Will keep eyes open and hopefully a solution will come along in the next 6 months to a year.

Good timing I will be taking another crack at a more permanent solution this week/weekend. For AutoX I've just been clipping onto the tie down brackets in the rear. Want to find a place/solution that will pass HPDE inspection.

I bought a CG lock a while back. It is definitely a strong lock. Sure, it's not a 4 point harness but it'll do the trick in a pinch.

Curious what you come up with.

I concluded the harness was a bad idea in the roadster without a real rollbar of proper height.

Finally bit the bullet and going to get a custom harness bar made for my Coupe. Droping it off next week and should have it back by 22 Sept.

I'll let everyone know how it works.

Having them make a harness bar that is removable and 3" wide camber lock harnesses.

Wish me luck

I took a roadster apart for an Intergral Audio install and saw nothing as far as install points.

In the general discussion section there is a thread about the harness bar. Auto power has made one for a member here. Search as for some reason I can't copy and past the thread link.

It seems to me that the LATCH anchor in the coupe should be able to be leveraged for this. Or perhaps using the right and left.

I picked up the bar from AutoPower. Installed easy using the seatbelt towers. One plus of the convertable's chassis.

Only issue is that the bar sits a bit high. Scroth recommends that the shoulder straps be parallel to 45deg below the shoulders.

That said this is a huge improvement over using rear hatch anchor hooks.

Your signature says that you got the bar in and that you are using a 5 pt harness. Any chance of getting pictures or a discription of the bar and how are you doing the 5pt harness?

Could you post a link for the bar?

The bar isn't listed on their site. Just give them a call and ask about the Mini Coupe bar. http://www.autopowerindustries.com

I did a 6 point harness using this bar and VAC Motorsports Mini mounting pieces. FWIW Schroth sells a 5/6 point DOT approved harness.
