I LOVE my 2010 Convertible....however....

I have a manual transmission. 5th gear seems to be useless. I wish they made 6th a bit taller for some additional gas savings.

The trip computer LIES. It always tells me my MPG is better than it is. I find it's off by 2 mpg every time. So when it says 33.7 mpg, I really got 31.7.

Is it me, or is the AC not the greatest in the world. Thank heaven the top's down most of the time and I don't need it.

The heated seats seem to have 3 settings. London Broil, Sahara, and simmer. So, the first two settings are WAY too hot, the 3rd isn't too bad.

My windshield wipers have been replaced twice. They are still noisy as hell. Is this normal?

The passenger-side rear speaker rattles like crazy. I have the HK system. Dealer says this is normal. I think they're nuts.

Given the above, I still love my car. Looking forward to many happy, top-down, motoring hours.

You can fix the MPG issue by entering the on-board computer's hidden menu and adjusting the fuel consumption ratio. My mpg used to read ~2mpg too high, but after adjustment, it now reads within .1-.2mpg. You can view other interesting readouts while in the hidden menu as well, such as coolant temp.

Sorry, too lazy right now to locate the exact procedure for you (there are numerous variations out there on the web), but I can tell you that entering the hidden menu is done simply using one of the push buttons on the tachometer (forgot whether it's the dimmer button or the trip reset button; it's been a while since i fooled with the hidden menu). You'll also need the last few digits of your VIN.

Maybe MINI wants you to be happy about your mileage. And I hope you are not paying for the wiper blades since they are free at the dealer.

Do you use a dry rub or a marinade? Rotisserie or direct heat? If you turned on the seat warmers, and the a/c at the same time, would it all even out?

In seriousness, have you asked the dealer if there is a way to lower the temps?

Windshield wiper noise might not be the blades, but the angle of the arm. Interesting vid:

My 11 also has pretty hot seat heaters but the other stuff you mentioned I have not noticed. Do have a manual A/C or Auto. I got man and it does work pretty hard on a heat soaked interior. My 5th gear is perfect for 55mph roads and have lots here. As for the computer mpg I have always done my own calculation: miles driven divided by gallons used. 33-36mpg is my average. I will have research that secret menu deal, I like that stuff.

Just came back from the Dragon and the open top made it a perfect motoring experience.
To took a Clubman last year it fun but not like Cabrio.

Yes, I have. They said they could try, but if it ends up setting them TOO low, there is no going back.

Nope, both swaps have been free. I'm going to look at them (based on the youtube video listed in this thread) and see how they are sitting on the car. They had practically zero use the first year I had the car, so they may settled at an angle.

I THOUGHT I had the same problem, but it just turned out to be the seat belt rattling against the side panel!! Try plugging in the rear seat belts even when there are no passengers in the back. I bet the mysterious rattle will go away.

Tried that a while back, no dice. I hope to test a 2010 or 2011 with HK on the lot and prove to them that I'm not losing my mind.

AC works Pretty good in my 2010. Leave the setting in Recirculate when first turned on. If you think it is not cooling properly have it checked out.

AC works great for me and I work/live in the desert out west. My main grip is a new one....the convertible top. It's a cat magnet. Cats seem to love sitting and sleeping on it no matter where I am.

How are you guys getting such high MPGs on yours? I'm stuck at about 25 or 26 mpg.

Is most of your driving in the city or do you do a lot of highway driving?

Anyone else know how to do this? My on board computer is also off by about 2 mpg. I'd love to be able to fix that.

My driving is highway and spirited around town and still low 30s. Do you spend much time in traffic? The lowest I have ever gotten was 29 and that was all city driving.

Here's what I used as my guide for entering and playing with the secret menu. It's posted for an E39 BMW, but I assure you it works for our cars as well. Have fun!

Thanks. By any chance do you remember what setting you adjusted to fix your mpg reading?

I'm not doing anything fancy. In fact I do have a bit of a lead foot. My driving is a mix of city/hwy. I think the lowest I've ever gotten was high 29ish. I just took a mostly hwy trip and got 35/36 with the AC on the whole time (it's 100+ here today)

THIS ^ And they seem to climb up the rear bumper and trunklid - new little sratches every time I look at the car!

My A/C also doesn't work as well as I think it should. It's cool almost instantly, but never really gets cold. The compressor also makes a horrible noise that the dealer states as "normal".
Do yours whine and moan like crazy? The only time I've heard a compressor make this much noise is when my fathers Saab 9-3's A/C compressor had taken a s***.

my A/C compressor when starting cold makes a noise when you first start it.. I also think my A/c should get colder faster, I had some serious A/c work done to my 1999 Cherokee and my A/c kicks ***, my 2010 Mini is just okay lol... Im guessing they put a system that is lite duty, because these things arent exactly torque monsters down low.

For those who have cat problems with convertible tops.... just sprinkle the top with black pepper everytime you park the car. Cats hate pepper, and they will soon learn not to get on top of your car after a week or so.
