First song in your new car

As I prepare to take delivery of my MCS, I've been trying to decide on the first song I'll play in it. Here are my current favorite candidates:

Musicology by Prince
There's Only So Much Oil in the Ground by Tower of Power
Give It Time by Eric Lindell

Other bands I'm considering:
Brand New Heavies
The Holmes Brothers
George Clinton
Buckwheat Zydeco

What's the first thing you're going to put through the sound system?

"Age of Consent" by New Order.

HiFi sounded just fine to me...

For me, I think it will be: Tori No Yoo Ni (Like a Bird) by Kanako Wada.

Tatoeba sora ni kumo ga michitemo (Like a bird that keeps on flying)
tobitsuzukeru tori no yoo ni (even if the sky is full of clouds,)
itsumademo kono kimochi wasurenai (I will never forget this feeling.)

Star Guitar by Chemical Brothers.

If you haven't seen the music video, check it out and you'll understand why.

Don't Fear the Reaper, by none other than Blue Öyster Cult.

Something about classic rock just seemed right...

Yeah, I'm with you there. I can guarentee that the whole "Substance" disc is going to get played on the drive from Fife to Mount Vernon. I've got the route planned and everything. Probably about 3-4 hours of twisty back roads the whole way! Guess I should pick music to go with. I don't think I'll have my iPod AUX port adapter by Saturday, soooo... I figure if I have to pick 4 or 5 full discs:

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Hard Fi - Stars Of CCTV
Gomez - Bring It On
New Order - Substance
The Bravery - The Bravery

Granted, if the adaptor shows up, I'll just make a nice playlist for the day.

I'm going to try out the hi-fi with one of the more acoustically perfect recordings. Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon', followed by David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust.

The very first will likely be the Miles Davis album, "Kind of Blue" to be followed closely by Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", Springsteen's new acoustic album (forgot the title), Brian Wilson's "Smile", Bill Evans "Live at the Village Vanguard" and Duke Robillard's "Groove A Rama".

Gotta be a live version of Where the Streets Have No Name, followed by Thunder Road.

Besides, it makes for a pleasantly ironic arrangement from the perspective of titles.

I didn't give it a whole lot of thought, but it turned out to be Once Upon A Time In The West by Dire Straits (from Communique).

London Calling somehow seems fitting in a MINI.

Although 'Thunder Road' has been my favorite song for the last 32 years, I would pick the Doobies' 'Rockin' Down the Highway' as the first song.

'Got those highway blues
can't ya hear my motor runnin'
flyin' down the road
with my foot on the floor! . . ' =o)

sounds good, erick. I love thunder road, too. But somehow it doesn't seem like it would be the right thing to listen to on your first ride in your MINI.

I didn't say 'Thunder Road' should be the first song. I said 'Rockin' Down the Highway' should be the first song.

I know. I was agreeing with you about it not being the first song, even though it's your fav.

Ah, okay. I guess my interpretive skills are a bit lacking due to my not having eaten in 18 hours.

LOL. Yeah, I always did think they should put a hotdog holder in the MINI. (In case you missed a prior thread, I was harassed for liking a cup holder in my car).
