A 1989 Mercedes Benz 300E, The steering was so loose, and the acceleration was slow, the MINI was such a big improvment

Funny, today on exiting my car at the restaurant, a big guy in a pick-up truck stopped me and asked all kinds of questions about my sparkling silver/black top MCS. As he was driving away, I don't remember his exact words, but he said something to the effect of, "beautiful car". His comments definitely made my day! The last thing I expected was to get my first complements (other than from friends) on my 3 day old MCS from someone driving a pick-up truck.

My previous car was a 2004 Prius. I loved having a really unique looking car, but that didn't last very long - they're all over the place now. I think the comments heard here from the former Camry owners fit the Prius as well.

Prior to the Prius I owned a bunch of Saabs and Audis. those were fun cars to drive. You drove the Audis and Saabs. The Prius just takes you from one place to another. I missed the driving experience, thus the 2007 MCS.

I've been taking the bus mostly since last year when daughter #2 finished college and now that daughter #1 is graduating I'm finally getting my MINI.

Let's see, counting the cars I've bought for my wife and daughters but occationally drove myself and in order of purchase:
67 Chevy II station wagon (had to learn manual as I drove it home 450 miles away)
62 Austin Healey Sprite (most fun, but a money sink, always breaking something)
78 Toyota Corolla (new, totaled)
72 Toyota Corolla (wife's mostly, sold)
85 Nissan Sentra (bought new to be commuter car for loooong commutes, died after 276,000 miles)
89 Mazda 626 (wife's mostly, bought new)
00 Mazda 626 (wife's mostly, daughter #2 totaled the 89, bought new)
96 Saturn SC2 (shared with daughter #2 until she finished college then hers)
96 Nissan Sentra (daughter #3 mostly, totaled)
01 Mazda Protege (daughter #3 mostly)

My BMW 530xit (E61) went bye-bye on Friday. Now just waiting for the car that's half the price and twice the fun.

Ordered MCS, sparkling silver with black roof/stripes, red lounge leather.

a honda civic

and before that : a honda civic

and before that: a honda civic

and before that: a honda civic

all together: over a half million miles in those 4 cars and NEVER a broken windshield due to stress cracks and Nothing ever gone wrong other than routine maintainance, timing belts at 90K, oil changes at 5k, brakes, mufflers, tires, etc. , but also one of the most boring cars ever made.

Just my opinion, but the word "totaled" shows up in that list a few times too many for my taste.

Well to be fair only one car was in a major accident, 100% other drivers fault. The others were fairly minor accidents while driven by my daughters where the car was very drivable, but the insurance company wouldn't pay for repairs so we accepted the "totaled" payout.

I'm trading up from the Boston T, combined with Zipcar rentals. This is a really cool car-sharing type rental thing they have here (and a bunch of other cities). The cars are all over the neighborhood, you reserve online, walk up to the car with a card that you put to a reader, use the keys that are in the car and drive. They do even have MCs, that's when we got hooked. It is a great deal if you drive infrequently, but it's time for us to join the 20th century.

thanks everyone -- turned out to be an interesting thread!

so far ... it turns out that the 10 former Honda owners are either driving (or waiting anxiously) for a new R56 ... and 9 MINI owners are trading up! BMW (8) and VW (8) are close behind!

2004 Acura RSX-S. 200 useless horsepower unless you want to wake the neighborhood by revving to 7400 rpm. Great fun on a racetrack but essentially a gussied-up Civic at anything below the VTEC switchover at 5800 rpm.

Getting traded in this Saturday for a Lightning Blue / White R56!

1989 Nissan Sentra then. Now, a 02 MC and a 05 MCS JCW. In the future, a 09 MCS and a classic mini coop. Yep, I luv these lil cars - nothing but pure automotive crack.

We found a creative way to make room for our R56. My previous daily driver was the one on the bottom, a 1972 BMW 2002.

I'm trading in my silver 2002 Mercedes 230 Coup that I've been driving for 5 years. I've enjoyed it, but am very much looking to driving a the new MCS with the 6 speed with the "fun" button!

How do you like your BMW 2002? That's a sweet car!! It looks like you've kept it in nice condition.
