2007 MCS spoiler: Yay or Nay

I'm trying to decide whether or not to have the spoiler taken off should I decide to go the S route. (1) Can I even ask the dealer to hold off on the install? and give just me the spoiler separately, or deduct it from the total? and (2) Does the spoiler of the S make any difference, performance-wise? or is it just for (not-so good) looks? Thanks for any feedback.

The spoilers are installed at the factory.

In one of the original press releases they claim the spoiler does provide some downforce. This may be why the drag of the MCS is higher than the MC.

For some reason a spoiler on the roof of the MCS does not bother me nearly as much as one on the trunk of just about any other car.

If it is going to be a black spoiler, you can trade it for my cooper spoiler if i end up going that route!
As Dave said, they are installed at the factory but you could have it taken off. If you dont put another one (different) back on then you will have to have some body work done to plug the holes....or maybe there is another way to plug them. ???

There's always those JCW spoiler hole delete plugs/fins.

FWIW, I removed the spoiler on my MC and then had a body shop fill in the holes and repaint the hatch. Total was $335.

Thanks, will keep that in mind. I am currently looking at the white roof, black body set-up though. The black spoiler doesn't bother me that much, I think it looks alright. I just don't like the looks of the white one as it stands out SO MUCH more IMO. The regular MC spoiler is pretty sleek looking, though. But probably doesn't have any performance aspect to it.

I think it's funny how you have to pay EXTRA to delete add-on accessories! I'm sure it looks nice, though .

Someone who ordered a MC will definately want to trade or purchase it outright, your dealer might want to trade it out for one of their stock MINIs.

Dave - I'd really like to see what that looks like. Is there a photo in your gallery?

Since we're reviving dead posts, anyone have any autopsy pics? Can't imagine a spoiler-less MINI.

Just look at any regular MC, they are spoiler-less.

And I like it

Further, someone pointed out in another thread where I asked that same question...it just bolts on from the hatch. So, you can remove it and check it out, and if you like it - keep it.

They are?

I though the spoiler was just smaller... little lip that clips on vs the larger S "wing".

There's a spoiler you can get on an MC as an option or part of a package, but what comes stock is more like a little ledge. Even the spoiler you can get is still not as large as the MCS version.

The spoiler on the R56 is functional, however, it reduces drag.

"The spoiler reduces the CW value and increases the output at the rear axle, which leads to better driving characteristics. The relatively low CW value reduces fuel consumption by approximately 0.1 l/100 km/h and leads to a final speed that is higher by approximately 2 km/h."

Too bad it doesn't keep the crap off the rear window.
