LSD in non-S ?

Is there any history/hints as to whether LSD would be available in a non-S Mini?

Much appreciated

Quaife ATB differential for BMW Mini Cooper

Hi JohnG,

MINI offers LSD as an option only on the MCS.

However, you may be able add one from Quaife. But the purchase price plus the labor to remove the transmission, to install the LSD, and reinstall the transmission may not be cost-effective.

I asked about this specifically at the Launch, and the R56 MC will not have a factory LSD offered.

Thanks very much for the quick replys to my question.

I will see if there's a "suggestion box" available.

How does the mini "perform" without LSD? I'm somewhat (actually very.....) hesitant about a non LSD equiped car.

To get or not to get...that is the question. Will it perform or not....

There is a good long discussion on LSDs at mini2.com (here). The lasts posts on that thread in my mind cemented the idea that LSD might not be very useful for "normal" driving, and at worst might even decrease mileage and increase tire wear. Honestly, whether those last claims prove true or not, for anything but the more extreme driving conditions IMHO this feature is of dubious benefit.

I admit, I'm just echoing what I've read and from the perspective of an impending owner of what I feel will already be a very find handling machine indeed, an 07 MSC with sport pkg.

If I thought I'd often drive hard enough to the lift the wheels up around a turn, I'd get one. If I thought I would regularly drive on snow, I might get one. But since I think most of my driving will be average whipping/zipping around at only slightly heneous exceptions to the speed limit, I'm comfortable that I can zip around adequately without it. C'mon, it's a BMW, with or without.

Points noted:
Perhaps LSD is an anachronism in a car with DSC.

I didn't order one on my MCS as we don't get much snow here and I don't intend to take it onto tracks. DSC is plenty for my needs in a car that handles so well anyway.
