R56 Break-in period for new MINIs
Is that still the case for the new redesigned MINIs? Has anyone seen a copy of the new owner's manual?
Yikes! Time for a time-out!! I'll be interested in seeing what the new "rules" for the break-in period are.
I'm thinking of going to the Dragon in May. My 07 should be in my hands by mid/late Feb. I think I'll be past my breakin by then.
Never been, never had a MINI but one of my coolest childhood car memories was being 'allowed' to start/warm-up my Uncle's mini in Ireland when I was 9 or 10. That was no small endeavor with the choke and all. , was there for about a month -- think I managed it half a dozen times without help -- had a ball tryin'!!

Yes, I've seen the 07 manual for the UK MINI and the running-in process hasn't changed: Under 4500 rpm and 100mph for the first 1250 miles. Easy on the brakes and clutch for first 300 miles and give the tires 200 miles to develop full grip.

With the MCS you may not notice too much keeping it below 4500 rpm as that's where the overboost drops out and full torque (260nm) is from 1700 to 4500 rpm. You should be able to impress your friends keeping it under 4000! It may just feel a bit odd at first shifting at such low RPM when driving fast.
It also says to keep varying your speed during the break-in period. My Audi manual said pretty much the same thing with the added suggestion of not using the cruise control which tends to keep your car at a steady speed.
