hi there. We recently bought my son his first car. It’s a 2010 S. Camden Edition. he loves it and I occasionally sneak a ride in it too. Loads of fun
The headlight warning light comes on when you start up the car and it makes its cute little chime. but the problem is throughout the ride (every five - ten minute?) or so it sends off the same warning. when i bought the car from prior owner he acknowledged it started after his light mods (headlights and side lights) but he made it sound like it was just once or twice at start up….not constantly
I am trying to figure out if there’s a way to disable the alerts….at least the chime so it doesn’t go off during the ride to tell us about the headlight. it gets to be quite a pain in the butt hearing that thing go off every few minutes. and more so it just is kind of a stressor for a new teenage driver. saw a couple people recommended Bimmercode. what is that and how does it work?
There is in fact nothing “wrong” with the headlights. they work fine. I have a feeling that since they’re aftermarket xenon headlights the prior owner put in that may be for some reason they’re not playing nicely with the wiring and or setting off a false alert? like maybe they pull more power or something then the OEMs? There’s also aftermarket LED side marker lights. I don’t want to have to start taking stuff off the car and going to the trouble of having to find original OEM parts to put back in there just to get the warning light and chime to go away but if that’s the only solution then we can…
is this something you think I could code out with Bimmercode?
Hello to the state of North Carolina. First and foremost, your CAS or DME module has a preset program to run a certain resistance of each dedicated bulb. Back in 2010 the manufacturer never anticipated of having Xenons and LED's installed therefore when drivers install something that a computer has never seen, it will throw and error and as for eliminating the error light, you can't. The only option I can give you is to put a piece of electrical tape over the bulb light.
The last and most expensive option is to take it to the dealership and have them re-write the entire program that includes Xenon and LED's or buy a new/used Mini that already have those light installed.
As mentioned, the warning is going off because xenon and LED bulbs draw less current, and the ECU monitors current to tell you when a bulb is out. Bimmercode should have the capability to code the bulb check to prevent the warnings. Turn on and check ALL the bulbs to make sure they are working, then code away!

LOL. it’s the warning chime that is driving me bananas. singing its tune every 5 minutes. But will definitely try the little piece of tape to cover up the actual warning light. Thanks

is there a Bimmer you recommend? is that coding permanent? thx
I had the same issue when I first got my '11 MCS. Got a warning about the Fog Lamps, but they were working! Also got a warning about Low Beams. Eventually made time to inspect the lamps, ans sure enough, the PO put LED's in.
Bimmercode will allow you to set lamps to LED Conversion, then you will stop getting those warnings.
is “Bimmer” just a generic name for OBD for Mini? or is there an actual Bimmer brand? looked on Amazon and they have all kinds of devices. Either just handheld‘s or ones with ethernet cable that you plug into a computer.
Is there one you have had success with? I’m not that bright says something easy to use but will lead to a good result. not opposed to paying a bit more for ease of use and more likely positive and long term result. thx
gotcha! i see now. Veepeak has BLE+ on sale for Black Friday. So I’m gonna give that a shot. assume the “+” just means a newer version of the Veepeak OBD II Adapter.
One of the reviews the guy said he used it to code out a seatbelt warning light on his mini Cooper so his dog could sit there…that gives me hope. hopefully it’s not too hard to figure out? Like I’m assuming a big list of warnings and functionality pop up on a list and you basically go in there and turn them off disable them?
Bimmerlink or Bimmercode? is turning off the headlight warning light due to aftermarket LEDs considered “coding?” or “clearing error code?” BC is free for Apple/ios. BL is $30. don’t mind paying but want to get the right thing. guess i can try free version first
from manaufacturer:
“BimmerCode is an app designed for coding and customizing the electronic control units (ECUs) in BMW and Mini vehicles. With BimmerCode, users can unlock hidden features and customize their vehicle's settings to suit their preferences. For example, users can enable features like video playback while driving, change the way the car's lights behave, or enable options that were not available in their region or model.”
“Bimmerlink allows users to read and clear error codes, monitor real-time sensor data, and perform various diagnostic tests. This app is particularly useful for users who want to keep an eye on their vehicle's performance, troubleshoot issues…”
The nicest thing about Amazon(just so long as you have Prime) is there return policy. If for any reason it doesn't work the way you want it to, you can simply return it(NO QUESTIONS ASK). I'd give it a try. It can't hurt
You need BimmerCode to change to LED. BimmerLink reads and clears trouble codes. I have both as BimmerLink reads Mini specific codes and none of my 4 code readers do and didn't want to purchase another.
