Fixed my always on Xenon DRLs

So after owning my 07 R56 justa for almost 8 years now and spent 2 sets of xenons as the headlights are always on, well EVERYTHING that has a bulb are always on, starring at the light stalk and flipping through the settings for years and nothing seems to work (not even the off switch

) and countless of pleas to the mini dealer (2) of them to do something about it and reprogram the damn car. I bit the bullet and bought a OB2 programmer and bimmercode. I was advised by someone at bimmercode that what I want will not work (turning off the xenons) as the car is hardwired by mini to do that for Canada but I still went for it. Played around the settings on the light module and I almost cried when the damn xenons turned off and the light stalked became functional like the way it should be. Now my DRLs are the 4 side marker lights + the running lights which should have been like that the first place. I also made a few changes on the programming of the car while I was at it. Now I will drive over to the 2 dealers ask the service manager that I became a "good friend" because of my countless visits and give them a middle finger.

A dealer may not be an expert in NCS expert or has a license for bimmercode - or is allowed to do that.
Often they can only code what the vehicle order is configured to, was deemed appropriate by BMW for the specific country, and the vehicle was certified for.

No reason to point fingers.

They can code. I asked them to do a one touch open and close on my sunroof and they did it. Somehow they don't want to touch the lights.

i think, if it's something the authorities can pull you over and cite you for, then the dealer doesn't want any part of the blame. DRLs are obviously more noticeable than the operation of your sun roof..

Coding help.

Hi there,

Could you let me know what setting you had to make to enable the lights about the fog lights to be DRL's without the Headlights on please?

I tried for hours over the weekend with Bimmercode but could not get any combination that worked.

Thanks very much.

Cheers
Nick

Yeah, I'd like to know that too.

Legally it has to be the headlights in these cars which is probably why your dealer wouldn't do it.

what I've heard is you'd have to change the car to U.S. to get it to work. I also tried BimmerCode and could only get both off or both on, but not just the running lights.

Also by "running lights", you mean the city lights right? TJZ mentioned fog lights which are different (and my car doesn't have).

Yes, when I say fog light I mean the small bulb at the top of the fog light unit not the fog light it's self.

I've seen this called the parking light, driving light and running light in various places.

Hope the OP responds as this is driving me mad.

Sorry got really busy. I'll hook up the adapter tomorrow and take pictures of my settings.

Here you go. This is what I have on my Canadian Spec R56 Justa with xenons. With this setup I have the driving lights (bulb above the fog light bulb), 4 corner lights (on the fenders trim) as my DRL.

So I tried this, and on my car it doesn't work. This could be because there are slight differences between the R60 and the R56, or perhaps different options make a difference (I don't have Xenon lights for instance).

Curiously, it seems like it "tries" to work. Coded this way the city lights flicker a few times, but don't come on. They do come on with the parking lights, and then the headlights come on in the headlight position.

''oh well....

Dan

Note it's also curious you coded:
Daytime Running Light Fog Lights = Active.

I tried this (even though I don't have fog lights) but no difference.

It depends on the equipment you have. If you have halogen light and no fogs then this setting might not work for you.

I have also a unexplainable lights thingy

Sorry to ask about my stuff in your topic, but I cannot for the love of god find out why my welcome lights are "EVERYTHING ON" suddenly, I already coded the car to go back to stock (NCSexpert, read CAS with VO$, and "processed car". my FRM settings just don't seem to apply. Does anyone have any idea? If I unlock the car by accident it will drain the battery i'm afraid as the timeout for the welcome lights also doesn't work :/

The welcome lights should turn off after a few minutes.
