Xenon Flicker

Hi guys my Cooper S as you stand in front, the cars right xenon light flickers on and off quickly when I switch the lights on, then it stays on but gives a quick flicker every now and then. This happens every time I switch the lights on. Oh the windscreen wipers twitch up the windscreen when the light flickers.

Does anyone know what could cause this problem. Its only recently started and the dealer can't find anything wrong in the diagnostics. Could it be the bulb?

Grant.

I would say you might be having an electrical problem. I haven't heard of a problem like yours yet. Does it happen often? If your under warranty have the dealer check it out.

I doubt if its the bulb, probably a sign of the ignitor going bad. I would have the dealer change out the entire HID unit while you are still under warranty.

From what it sounds like the Xenons are auto leveling when it's firing up and auto leveling when it needs to, That sounds normal.

one question though. When you mean flickering is it turning on then off quickly and then back on? or is it flicking up? If it's flicking up that sounds normal.

As far as the wipers, I'm not sure.

Orurs does that, too. I thought it was "normal." This is our first car with Xenons so I thought it was a function of that technology.

That seem normal to me, i've noticed it on a lot of other models that have Xenon lights.

Hi when I say flickering I mean flickering on and off then it will stay on for a bit and give a quick flicker then on a bit and so on. But if the lights are on and I put the wipers on to wash or clear the screen the light flickers. It is only the left light if you are in the car. I am going to ask the dealer to check the control unit.

Take it back to the dealer. What you just described doesn't sound right. Now the only question is can you recreate the issue when you get there?

Good Luck

Hi golden_child I don't have to worry about recreating cause it happens every time.

For some reason my left xenon is working normally again. But I was going to be taking my car to the dealers to get looked at and fixed. As much as I don't want it to play up again I don't want it to work again so they can see the problem if you know what I mean.

Started my car this morning and worked OK again, so I checked all the things that affected the xenon and when I switched on the front fog lights then the xenon started flashing again. So I'm thinking the BCM is faulty.
