Reading, Clearing and Coding

What cable and software are members using/recommending for the subject?
I bought a (cheap) eBay OBDII BT Dongle, which many apk's will connect to, but will not see the MC ECU. I have VCDS, and would like something equivalent. I'd like a PC based solution.

Thanks!

for PC based, Rheingold seems to be the latest software with most options.

I've been running Rheingold for a while now (aka ISTA, BMW Standard tools, etc.). It's definitely the most versatile of the options out there, the caveat is that getting it set-up correctly is sometimes tricky. But there's tons of how-to's out there to help with that.
I was using a cheap D-CAN cable which worked pretty well for a while but recently started acting up. I bought a Chinese knock-off icom to replace it and I really like it. Connection speeds are so much faster, it also has the ability to code modules on the MOST ring, which the D-CAN cable couldn't do.

Thanks guys
I installed ISTA and it runs, but the some of the tabs are grayed out. Maybe because I don't have a cable yet?

mrbean, can you point me to the ICOM cable source?

Thanks again

I got mine here, but there's lots of vendors selling knock-offs.
It took them a few days to ship it out but transit time was quick.

Thanks for the reply, mrbean.
I ended up ordering a dongle recommended by Bimmercode. That should do me for a start.

Does the SSD contain the executable programs or you have to load them locally to your computer?

I bought one without the SSD since I already had standard tools installed on my laptop. My understanding though is that it contains the executable programs and daten files, so just plug it in and go.

Received my Veepeak OBDCheck BLE dongle today. Did some basic coding, i.e. changed one-tap turn signal from 3 to 1 (would like 2, like I did om my VW); unlock all doors at once; lock at 16 kmh; disable seat belt reminder (I ALWAYS wear my seat belt.
Need to look at the expert codes meanings to see if I want to go deeper.
