Aux Water Pump Recall?

2012 MCS hatch

Just got a voice mail from the local mini dealer. Said there is a recall to replace the Aux Water Pump. Supposedly in stock, call for an appt.

Interestingly, I haven't received mail about any recall. So, anyone heard about a recall? Is there someplace I can check for a recall?

Over the years I've gotten mail from mini saying a warranty has been extended on certain parts. Usually a recall is safety related..

If you have a 2011 or 12 MCS you might want to look into this. Seems the circuit board that controls the aux water pump can over heat and catch fire. The recall says to park car outside. Ours is currently sitting in the driveway. Have appt Monday to replace..

Yup, had mine done late last summer. Took like a day and a half.

I had this done at Motor City MINI and it took the tech about 15 mins.

I assume you got a recall letter sometime during the summer? I hadn't received one, didn't know about the recall until the dealer called me a few days ago..

Had mine done on the 2007 n14 R56 a while back, looks like they came out for ones on the N18 also now or newer n14s. They share the same updated part number that we carry, its that older part N18 aux pump number that being recalled. get it check out asap.

Just had it replaced a couple of days ago. I asked the SA why I just heard about it since the recall came out last summer. He said Mini is rolling out the recall in batches over time.

Thanks, so they did it in batches this time.

I recently purchased a 2012 MCS and entered my info on the NHTSA recall site but nothing comes up about any recalls.

On the carfax It didn't show any replacement of the Aux Water Pump.

Is it worth reaching out to my local MINI dealer and asking them if the recall applies to my vehicle?

Worth a 5 min call, they can pull more info on the back end with your VIN and see if its already been done. Might have been done.

Ya, as per ECS, give the dealer a call. From what I read, it can be a serious problem -

My 2012 S (10/2011 manufacture) is not included in the recall.

Does anyone know if they actually made a change to the part where some 2012 models are okay? Or is this the typical manufacturer thing where they try to limit the recall as much as possible even though other cars likely have the same issue?

Good question. I spoke with the tech that changed mine out, he said that for a while he changed out hundreds of them. Interestingly, I never got a recall notice in the mail, got a call from the Mini dealer last week.

Thanks again for the advice. I called my local MINI dealership this morning and they said that the AUX Water Pump was replaced July of last year so I am all set.

Kind of sucks that it does not show up on the carfax report. I wonder what other repairs are missing from the report....

Welcome, yep carfax does not show everything sometimes. I think it gets you like 90% there and then you call the dealer for internal stuff or if the owner does something to the car themselves, then, of course, that's not reported.

To answer my own question: I checked realoem.com and there have apparently been five (!) revisions of that pump. The current revision appears to have been put into cars produced after 10/6/2011. So it would appear that my car was built right after this switchover.
