One is Genuine MINI and one is Aftermarket for that N14 cover its produced much more in volume aftermarket then the N12 is my guess. Some aftermarket options for the N12 cover in aftermarket, just Febi and PCV valve replacement itself if you click on that link.

I'm not that concerned about "genuine mini" so long as the part was made by OEM. Do you make that distinction? Do you have access to OEM valve covers for the Justa? I've seen the ad's on ebay for cheap justa valve covers, but would prefer a less expensive OEM alternative from a trusted vendor like yourself.
Its made by an OES, not OEM. I am actually running that HT brand valve cover on my N14 R58 JCW. We test most of the products we bring in from suppliers as we have multiple MINIs here. All good with that valve cover. For the N12 we have a PCV Viaco replacement which is OES or the full valve cover from Febi which is a top OES for MINI timing chain kits. We have sold a lot of those and they are very close to OEM level if not exactly the same. So you are good there.
I just talked to the main supplier for all the MINI valve covers in France Mecaplast. They don't sell aftermarket as they have exclusive contracts with BMW group. They know of the knock-off Mecaplast branded on ebay, amazon and such and were informed.
So we don't and no one has access to the Mecaplast OEM unless its Genuine MINI. Hope that helps out.
We thank you for trusting us as well as other supportive vendors on NAM as some other outside NAM sellers don't really know the supply chain or fitments.
OEM, OES, OMG!!!!!!!
I presume that an OES has quality standards that assures the part is suitable regardless of the manufacturer?

LOL, its get super crazy with definitions. Yes. The covers are good, I have no issues with mine. Yep, they are tested by the OES suppliers and at best meet or exceed the standards. We don't carry products that I would not put on my own MINI.
If you have an issue I am always here to help. 99% of the time if there is a problem, people have a hard time installing them for the first time working on a MINI or they forget to pull that red tab out.
Yep, since its shared with over vehicles. Its a plug vs. a connection on other PSA engines.
OK so in australia do i just leave it off? obviously the red handle plug does not fit so that goes in the bin. but do i install the small black cap or leave it off?
that valve to me seems to be an emergency pressure relief and would vent to atmosphere? is that correct?
