R56 Aftermarket Swaybar, 19mm or 22mm?
Aftermarket Swaybar, 19mm or 22mm?
Hey everyone, I am shopping around for a rear swaybar and I cannot decide between the 22mm and the 19mm bars. Because the price difference between the two bars is very small I am tempted to get the 22mm, but I feel like that might cause too much oversteer and make the car more oversteery than the neutral feel I desire. What swaybars are you running on your cars, I am going to be using the car mostly for street use with somewhat frequent autocross events and the occasional trackday. The car has 235/40 tires on it, so with all that extra grip, should I just go with the 22mm?
A 22mm wont be over kill for what you'll be doing with your MINI. You could go in between with the Whiteline 20mm bar as it is also 3 point adjustable, which will be perfect for your application and you can adjust it to your feel when you hit the track.

19mm, middle setting is enough. I had one on my 2007 and it was great. Way less understeer but still a tiny bit. 22mm watch out for car swapping ends, I remember one guy on this forum who got 23mm and car ended up on its side!
I ordered the 25.5 hsport hollow bar, I plan on running it on the softest setting, if there is too much oversteer I'll just dial the alignment a bit.
Really, the car flipped?? That makes me a little paranoid lol

He is correct on both. The Hsport Comp bar works just perfect for that car and will be nice and neutral on the middle setting.

The Alta 19 adjustable works just fine for me. I started off with the lowest setting, that took care of a lot of the understeer. Recently moved to the middle setting. Car is much more "tossable" now, and I can vary the degree of under/oversteer with the throttle. Rotation is nice and predictable. I may soon go to the tightest setting, just to see what happens. I imagine more tail-happy, which for me is a good thing, as I am used to RWD muscle cars and their handling characteristics.

Got the rear swaybar installed today, put it on the middle setting and WOW what a difference. Car handles like its on rails, not getting any oversteer around corners and a very neutral feeling all around. Probably the best mod I've done to the car yet.
