I assume you have the turbo S model.
It is the auxiliary water pump cooling your turbo after you shut off the engine. It is normal and nothing to worry about.
Yes, as R56in stated. This sounds to be normal and a result of the aux pump. The auxiliary coolant pump is used to supplement the engine coolant pump to help with turbocharger cooling. It is mounted to the engine block, below the turbocharger. After the engine is shut off, the electric cooling fan may continue to run after the engine is shut off in two different scenarios. Lots of good information about it in this NAM thread here and our tech article here.

Aux water pump, set in the front driver side near the transmission. Its run for a minute or so then shuts off. Some days that are hot , or you had a track day its will run longer , also with the main fan on. If it starts and stops after a short time , its fine.
Nope! I know all about the after run pump.
Its the Turbo pressure solenoid. Pressure Converter

ECS You guys carry for $90.00
coachvminis-what year and model? My 2011 R56S is currently at the dealer for #1, #2, and random misfire codes, half check engine light, reduced power situation. I also mentioned the little "whheeee" noise it makes when shutting down....sometimes....only a split-second sound, and not all the time. Definitely NOT the aux water pump, I know that one. They are thinking accessory belt tensioner, and are trying to get authorization from my extended warranty company for all 4 coils, acc belt tensioner, a trans input shaft seal leak, and MAYBE another aux water pump, as this already-replaced-under-warranty one seems to speed up and slow down, and makes varying noises when it runs after shutdown. I REALLY LOVE my MINI, and the fact that I have a free loaner 2015 Cooper with the 3-cyl turbo and an auto. But, I miss my car! The 15 Cooper is ok, but that auto? UGH. Hope to hear back from dealer thurs or friday.....we shall see! Friday will be one week that she has been away from me.....and I have new mods just waiting to be installed! LOL.

Reason: Yup.
renchjeep, My mechanical issues are not as bad as yours. If they were I would drive it to The finest neighborhood in South Miami leave the keys in it and walk away collect the insurance and get a more reliable car. This already is killin me this meaning the Mini. In my lifetime of cars 70's 80's 90's 00' I have never had one have so many mechanical issues as this. I mean this is the worst made ever. Close to the Ford Maverick and the Pinto which I never owned. My 79 V-Dub Beetle never had as many issues as this Mini. Just crazy...BMW just Wow..My first and last. I tried trading it in but dealers will not give me what its worth and that's not good so I'm stuck in it.
Does anyone know if this part can be eliminated with a Boost tap or controller? Maybe not I see an electrical plug attached OCC in the future then I Might be able to eliminate this? Is this part of the PCV system to the mini. On the Audi 1.8t we were able to eliminate the pcv system all together with a boost control tap. anyone?
If you have a video of the noise, coachvminis, put it up on youtube and provide a link here. Oh...my aftermarket Hendricks warranty is covering MOST of my issues, with only a 50.00 deductible. The trans input shaft seal leak is apparently only a weep at this point, but warranty rep said that if it ever does become a drip, they will cover it. My SA at the dealer was trying to get as much work done as possible, maybe asked for things not really needed at this point. Love my MINI, and I never expected it to be problem-free. This is why I bought the warranty when I got the car used at 21k. Now at almost 50k. As long as the warranty continues to cover things going south, I will continue to Motor On!
I'm a member of the League of Extraordinary Mini's on FB and I have the Video loaded there...here some reason will not let me. Dude named Mark a Mini Mechanic diagnosed right off the bat...Gave me the part # etc,. I know exactly where it is, under the intake mani.. may be a loose vacuum hose I was there changing the water inlet pipe so I might have yanked a hose off I'm hoping...if not I will change the part...sounds awful when turning off...
