Hit a raccoon at 70mph

My GF hit a raccoon at 70 mph last weekend and having some issues. Lower grill knocked in and various pieces from center to right side are broken or have broken clips. Now have noticed AC doesn't work and it seems a bit sluggish at low rpms. I'm guessing could have damaged the AC rad. Would puncturing the intercooler effect the later? Haven't had a chance to have anybody rev the engine and check for blows. Last question, if I have to replace grill and lower cross piece as well as marker light surround and AC and intercooler, any guesses if that would likely cost more than my $1000 deductible.

Ah ya, what you describe will be above your $1k deductible. Time to involve your insurance..

Didn't see it on side of the road a week later. Re driving the route did jog her memory to it going under the car not just bouncing off.

I figured once I started in with more than just cosmetic problems it's likely to go way up.

Yep, sounds like it will eat up that deductible without "blinking an eye". I would take it to the closest Mini dealer and get an repair estimate, then make a decision what to do. FYI, someone kissed my rear bumper. No structural damage just the rear bumper cover needs to be replaced and some racing stripes replaced. The estimate was $1650 from a local Mini Dealer.

With the coyote problems central IN is having, the racoon probably handn't stopped rolling before one snapped it up as a snack.

Does not take much to get to 1000.00 with damage.

Kind sir, I am Ichabod Muddle of Dewey Stickem and Howe, representing the aforementioned victim of said incident, who alleges grievous bodily harm and loss of income, and seeks compensatory and punitive damage. Please accept my process server when he appears, although he is a rabbit.

Your obedient servant,

I. Muddle

Can sift through and look at what things may add up to in our parts catalog here. Otherwise, taking it to an indy shop who can write up the cost of repairs would be your best way to go to see if it'll go over your deductible cost. Good luck!

Sounds like I should head to dealership then. Thanks for the advice.

That rabbit better be in a suit and pants or its gonna get a load of buckshot.

The coyotes will take care of the process server too -- suit or no suit.

That's what happened with my first MINI, an R53 - suicidal raccoon took out the front bumper so it was hanging off on one side. I thought that was all that was damaged and figured I could live with a broken bumper, but since it was winter I didn't realize it took out my a/c compressor until several months later. Thankfully insurance was very understanding!
