Yellow Engine light on hard Accel

Hey mates,

07 MCS, 54K miles. Ive been noticing on hard accelerations, well not really hard, but if I keep the RPM's at about 3k and give it gas I get the yellow half engine light pop up. I plug my scan gauge in and it doesn't read an error code, I cant make it reset either unless I clear trouble code on my scan gauge.

Any suggestions? I don't know if it needs a walnut blast or if its something I can do at home. My power isn't decreased when it comes on either. Its just annoying.

Check plugs, and their gap. Ended up in limp mode yesterday due to plugs, and 1 bad coil.

Ouch, were you experiencing any problems or was it out of the blue?

Out of the blue. On ramp to the highway, got into it. Not floored, but more than half way pedal down. When the turbo spooled up everything went flat. Blaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh....then the limp mode light came on in front of me, and the CEL lit on the speedo in the dash.

Not saying this is your problem. But it's an easy and free check before you go further. Depending on your scan gauge, it may or may not display the code, not all of them do all of the codes.

My CPO program mini had the yellow engine light come on today after a hard acceleration and it's stayed on. Going in Monday to have them take a look. 57K miles. They said as long as it drives OK it is OK to use. We'll see.

Whoa! Exact same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Accelerating on the highway at 5th gear when it felt weird. Then put it in 6th and tried to accelerate more when it went into limp mode. Went to autozone so they can use their generic reader but no codes. Was going to wait until the weekend to get it checked at MINI, but under the same scenario getting on the highway the light came off after a semi hard acceleration. Let me know what it is! BTW turbo was spoiling fine from what I could hear. Have an 07 MCS w/ 104,000 miles.

Mine too. 2007 R56 w/89k. Multiple misfires confirmed. P0303 and P0304 swapped plugs to no avail. Going in tomorrow to a local Mini service place... avoiding the dealer at all costs.

I also have a CPO, had the same problem being described here, and took it into the dealer. I was under the impression that they would be able to diagnose the problem under the warranty. This is not the case. They wanted to charge me 300 dollars to change spark plugs (seriously?) and would not cover the diagnostic under the warranty. Charged me 150 for doing nothing all said and done. Will never take it in again.

Bump. Recently bought an '07 with 109k miles and accelerating onto the freeway gave me the brief engine light with stumble but went away as quickly as it came. No codes my scanner could pick up. I'm curious to see what others find.

Without posting the code, is a shot in the dark. You got a CEL, you got a code. Need to either take it to a mini dealer/specialist, or purchase a code reader capable of pulling BMW/Mini specific codes..
