Sorry to see that your MINI is totaled. Hope you walked away unharmed since the airbag did not deploy.

That bites!!
Didn't you get a picture of the car the teen-age texting while driving moron was driving that caused the mess? Hope the other one looks worse.

If you squint and kinda blur your vision that first picture looks a little like a poor sad beat up face with it's tongue hanging off to it's left side.

This was on east-bound I-70 right where I-675 merges in. I was in the far left lane when all of a sudden a big white pickup truck comes screaming in from right-to-left across my view out the windshield. From my perspective, it looks like he's traveling nearly perpendicular to the road; I don't know if he lost control while merging or what. I slam on my brakes, but despite my good winter tires, there just wasn't enough space to do anything but hit.

My glasses were knocked off my face, so I couldn't see what happened next, but the couple who eventually stopped to check and see if I was ok said they didn't see anyone else stopped ... no white truck, and nobody coming forward as witnesses.

The kicker: I had wanted to reinstall my dashcam this past weekend, but didn't get around to it. =(

I was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a contusion of the chest wall (from the seat belt). That was about 2 weeks ago and I'm doing better, but there's still a section of my ribcage that really hurts if I move wrong, so I wonder if there wasn't also a fracture (doc tells me hairline fractures anywhere from the nipples in don't show up on xrays very well, so it's possible).

Got a call earlier today from someone with my car insurance who is investigating whether my uninsured/underinsured driver coverage could apply (would cover medical costs, time away from work, pain and suffering, etc.). She said that without any witnesses, she'd have to check with their legal department to see if there was enough evidence that my injuries were a result of the other vehicle (a necessary condition for the coverage to apply).

I'm glad you have found your sense of humor in all this.

I was afraid this would be the result when I clicked on the link cuz we all no there is no fix for the carbon build up. Just maintenance.

Upside is you can do some car shopping.

Waaaaaay ahead of you there!

I found a dealership nearby that not only worked to accelerate my order (deposit paid 3/30, in production 4/3), but also set me up with a loaner vehicle for the 4-6 weeks it'll take for my car to arrive. Very appreciative of that, I must say.

Good luck, fishbert. I hope your insurance company treats you right. Too bad the idiot who caused your crash apparently got away scot-free! Not cool! Dumb question, maybe, but are there any highway cameras nearby the scene, or any nearby businesses with cameras that may have caught something? I assume this has already been looked into....

Permanent solution to carbon build up.

Damn.
That is a permanent solution. Quick, too.
And to think I pulled our cylinder head, installed new valves, etc, etc... I could have been finished with that job weeks ago.

Glad you are OK.
Hopefully things work out and you don't get screwed on top of it all.
