Lol...touchy subject with me at the moment. I would seriously love to upgrade cams but I don't see it happening on an N18 any time soon. Valvetronic uses an electric servo and eccentric shaft to vary valve lift through a set of intermediate rockers. That's why there's no butterfly in the intake on them. Consequently if you increase cam lift by say .020, the valves will be opening .020 more even at idle unless you reprofile the eccentric cam. Without that the ECU will try and compensate with the result being one very messed up idle.

That head looks sweet BTW but if anyone sends you one from an N18 just do yourself a favor and do like the commercials said back in the 80's. "Just say NO!"
In the last Modern Mini magazine I got there's a loon in the UK that built a Mini Jet car. I'm not making this up seriously...full on jet engine sticking out the back. Reminds me of those famous last words "Hey ya'll watch this!"

Somebody asked what the port looked like as far as smoothness. Here's a photo of how they are.

The switches are just switches. They don't contain any tunes. Some Manic customers don't even own the switch.
I'm not sure what you are referring to as "what is advertised". They advertise as being "flashed thru the OBD for N18" which was not available to the N18 market prior to Manic. It is loaded from a laptop using software that only Manic dealers have.
But yes the ECU needs to be shipped in or the car needs to be plugged in to laptop. The flashing cables are only given to dealers.

I've started this car Before with Less mods. And that turbo did not like it at all. It was hot as hell. Then it cooked an exhaust valve. Not happening again.

Switches don't hold any data they are just a switch. Like a light switch in a sense.
If you want stage 3 then it would be loaded into the ECU on a bench or thru the OBD port in your car.
Once flashed you can use the switch to switch between the 3 different performance maps that are stored in your ECU.
Or you can pick a Map when it is being flashed and leave it there.

A Cobb Accessport would work for tuning your N14 engine, they are often for sale here in the Marketplace. You could then bring your MINI to a custom tuner who has a Cobb Accesstuner for MINIs and get a dynamometer tune specifically for your car with all it's unique mods.
You wouldn't want to put a canned tune on a car like yours, with it's mods.
