About to purchase a 2013 MCS
Hello everyone,
I am currently about to purchase a 2013 Mini Cooper S Bayswater edition this coming weekend.
I negotiated the price for the Mini as well as my trade-in. On the day when I go in to sign the contract what other "Fees" would I be looking for beside tax and title?
How much in Doc fee does Mini usually charge?
What other surprise fees might they try to tack on?
Thanks
Mike

Im not sure about hidden fees but on my 13 I did have to pay for a shipping charge but that was clearly added. The only things they try to add on right when you finalize your purchase is dealer add-ons. A bunch of bs in my book.. They approached me saying I need them. Not asking if I wanted them.. So be careful not to let them smooth talk you into anything you don't want.. All that stuff is just high priced bs! Its all a game.. Just look things over so your not paying for something not at all needed or wanting! Good luck!
When I bought mine, the dealer tried to make be pay +$800 for some clear bra paint protector. I told him I didn't want it and he said it was already on the car. I told him to take it off. He said he would. Well, the car never let my sight, and nobody ever took anything off because it was never put on. I'm not say that he was trying to scam me but only that he lied about it already being on the car, I'm sure he was just trying to get me to agree to purchasing the product.
All other fees like tax, tag, title, and destination are clearly marked.

Thanks for the response, will post some pictures once I take delivery.
I just hate how they sometimes try to tack on "extras" to markup dealer profit once you agree on a price.
This will be my first Mini purchase and wanted to get forum insight before going into the dealership.

It’s not the sales person you need to worry about when you close the deal. He’s held to a certain level of decency because of the customer satisfaction survey which you’ll receive two weeks after the transaction. He’ll ask you for “10 out of 10” on all counts because if his overall rating for the month drops below 98.5% (roughly), his overall commission check takes a big hit. So, unless you really had a problem with your sales guy, give him a break and give him all 10s.
However, you should fear the Finance Manager. This is the person who will seem to be on your side, but will be the one pushing hard for you to buy extras from the dealership. They will range from:
Windshield insurance
Windshield chip protection
Paint protection
Leather and fabric protection
Tire damage waiver (incidentally, they wanted $1,200 for this when I bought my car)
Extended warranties
Door ding coverage (no seriously, they offer this)
Window etching
Lojack protection
The list goes on and on.
I have nothing against someone buying these things, but I’d recommend shopping and buying them afterwards because these items are typically marked up 200% to 300% by the dealer. And these guys are typically very very pushy and insistent. The shift to a better buying experience as not made its way to the backrooms of dealerships yet. I buy cars frequently enough that the last two times, I made it a condition of the sales: your Finance Manager will NOT try to sell any additional products or services.
With that on the Bill of Sale, it took 15 minutes to sign the paperwork and head out the door with the car.

^^+1
Exactly how it happened to me. My salesman said he would get no commission if he didn't get all 10's. He was great so I have him all 10's.

You might want Gap insurance depending on if your trade is making you money or costing you money.
You may also want the tire and wheel warranty if you negotiate the price (it is negotiable).
Else, there should be no fees outside of the price you negotiated other than the doc fee ($399 for me).
Enjoy it!

Doc fee, $399 seems a little steep? Usually at other dealerships they charge around $50-$150.
Thank you, I am definitely excited to be getting into my first Mini, the test drive put a big smile on my face.
Must be regional. I've used probably 6 or 7 different dealers in the last 10 years and never seen anything under 399 as the posted doc fee.
Everything went smoothly, no up charge in any fees, pretty straight forward. They did "suggest" the usual extended warrantee, maintainence, wheel/tire insurance. As well as lost key package, some interior spray to keep out stains. Politely declined everything.
Will post up some pictures. Smiling ear to ear driving my first Mini home.

What the heck is that? I wonder if they have the decency to price it any lower than the retail price of a new key fob. I'm guessing "no". (MINI roadside assistance already covers locking your key inside the car, as I recall.)
Bought a new Countryman S for my wife in December. I learned that doing transaction details by email made the finance manager stuff a lot simpler. He emailed me asking if I wanted all the things and included some Word docs with the info. I dutifully skimmed them and replied "No thanks, just tell me how the check should be made out tomorrow." And that was pretty much that. He did make one more attempt by phone, didn't push the matter when I said no. Really, it was painless. A coworker of mine had the same experience there.
MINI of Peabody, 10/10, no pushy BS, would buy again. :-)

Basically replaces lost keys at no cost, telling me how each Mini key is $250 to replace if it is lost.
Overall they were not pushy, just going through the motions of the different extensions and insurance. They didn't give me a price, but use the "increase payment by" tactic.
I will be giving the a 10s across the board.

Have not been to the local Mini dealer yet, as I am trying to make the numbers work... retired (cannot afford to take money out of my monthly income for the payments), and if I take the $ out of my IRA to pay for the vehicle, that money is taxed as regular income AND also kicks us into the next higher tax bracket ... So that I get crushed (F***) :(
Options.... to minimize the tax pain I could lease or finance it...... as you can tell I have not talked w/ our CPA yet....
I'm South of you in Rhode Island. Considering a purchase of a 2013/14 Mini S or JCW...

I recommend a test drive of the 2013 and 2014 Mini Hardtop. They are a whole world of difference.
